It may be mostly penguins here for the next few weeks! First time seeing them in the wild. Taking photos from a small boat means some are less crisp than I'd prefer, but it's hard to go wrong with wild penguins. Maiquillahue Island, Chile, has Humboldt and Magellanic penguins. #birds #photography

More chimango caracaras. I wouldn't want to be whatever that middle one is looking at. They're fast, and if you're small, you're likely on the menu. #birds #photography #Chile

In Niebla, Chile, these little chimango caracaras are everywhere. Watch where you're going because they're likely to swoop down in front of you any time you're out and about. #birds #photography #Chile

How about a southern lapwing to cheer up your day? I like the subtle shading on its wings. Spotted in Valdivia, Chile #birds #photography #nature

More cormorants with seaweed. This one's an aptly named red-legged cormorant. Just look at those little red feet! I thought there was something wrong with my screen when I looked at the second photo, but that's the actual color of its feet. #birds #photography #Chile

These funny ibises are all over Niebla, Chile. The one in the middle is tooting its horn. They sound a bit like a laughing chicken. I don't have a recording, but if you want a chuckle, check out black-faced ibis call on youtube. #birds #photography #nature

Different life stages of a heron. The kayak guide on the Cutipai river said the bird in the first two photos is a juvenile huairavo (crowned night heron). I believe the 3rd photo is an adult of the same species, seen on Isla Mancera. #birds #photography #Chile
