Clenching one's buttocks is not an advisable polygraph countermeasure, as it may be detectable via the seat pad that comes with modern polygraph instruments. There are better, more subtle techniques available: antipolygraph.org/pubs.shtml

You'll find a short and simple explanation of how to beat a ploygraph "test" on our home page, below the bullet list: antipolygraph.org

And you'll find a much more detailed explanation in our free book, The Lie Behind the Lie Detector: antipolygraph.org/pubs.shtml

Feds specifically carved out an exemption for government stuff in the law otherwise banning polygraph use. Polygraph machines are basically the same exact thing as Scientology e-meters that "read your thetans".

The National Academy of Sciences' key finding was that "[polygraph testing's] accuracy in distinguishing actual or potential security violators from innocent test takers is insufficient to justify reliance on its use in employee security screening in federal agencies."

Indeed it is. Sadly, polygraph critic Doug Williams, who is profiled in this episode, died four years ago. The fact that the U.S. government targeted him for prosecution speaks to just how concerned the federal government is about polygraph countermeasures.

The pseudoscience of polygraphy is no better today than it was a century ago.

There is no documented instance of the polygraph ever solving a federal leak investigation. On the contrary, when used in the past, it has resulted in investigatory misdirection.

We publish a free book that explains in detail how to pass or beat a polygraph "test." Prospective whistleblowers may find it useful: antipolygraph.org/pubs.shtml

You beat it by knowing that they are not real. Polygraphs are fake science more like a ouija or a magic amulet than a real test. They only "work" by tricking people into thinking they do so you confess.

It is why it’s so funny that trump is so obsessed with scaling way up the use of polygraph and surprise polygraph testing across the federal government, it underscores how much he thinks fantasy and things he sees on tv are Real

Today, 6 October 2025, would have been the late polygraph critic Doug Williams' 80th birthday. This photo was taken 10 years ago this day, as he was facing a two-year prison sentence on trumped-up charges. For more on his life, see: antipolygraph.org/blog/2021/03...

Polygraphs can not determine the truth, guilt, innocence or lies.

Polygraphs are invasive interrogations designed to get you to confess to as many crimes as humanly possible.

If you agree to submit to a polygraph, you’re guilty, you just don’t know it yet.

If the Secretary of Defense were to be polygraphed, it would be the polygraph operator's job that would be riding on the outcome, not the Secretary's.

The executive branch has long relied heavily on polygraph screening for personnel security screening, despite its complete lack of scientific underpinnings.

Pentagon puts way too much stock in polygraphs. There’s a reason they’re not admissible in court - the results are bullshit.

It does make for a miserable way to spend a day and kills morale tho

The Pentagon plans to impose strict nondisclosure agreements and random polygraph testing for scores of people in its headquarters, including many top officials, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday
