My latest for @rollingstone.com digs into Trump's $30 Billion in shutdown cuts targeting Democratic states and cities with painful cuts to public transit, energy, and fundamental civil rights protections.
The pain will reverberate throughout the economy.

10 years ago @jeffgoodell.bsky.social talked to President Obama about the climate crisis for a Rolling Stone cover. So much has changed but the threat remains and we simply haven't done enough.

Esp in context of this article, "'They Need to Suffer’: Inside Trump’s War on Dissent. After Charlie Kirk's murder, Trump expanded his war on free speech, the left, and ordinary Americans. It's going to get worse." by @swin24.bsky.social @andrewperez.bsky.social

Been thinking about this quote from my 2005 book, The Bush Agenda, and how Trump keeps trying to entice "enemies" to attack.
Joint Chief of Staff Admiral William J. Crowe once told Colin Powell:
"First, to be a great President you have to a war. Two, you have to find a war where you are attacked."

These are no longer "warnings." The fossil fuel pollution is already destroying our air and atmosphere. The pollution is already filling our lungs. It's already killing people (as well as canaries and other animals and species). People are already running out of the mine in search of safety.

Yo! People concerned about the #climate crisis: time to drop the phrase "canary in a coal mine" to describe melting glaciers, skyrocketing insurance premiums, extreme weather events, etc. The term refers to harbingers of bad things to come in the future. The climate crisis is here right now.

Favorite line thus far on race & gender in @kamalaharris.com new book, 107 Days.

"Today he wants me to prove my race. What next? He'll say I'm not a woman and I'll need to show my vagina?"

On deciding not to take the bait in response to Trump's dog whistle attack that she "happened to turn Black."

Donald Trump is declaring a fake energy emergency so he can gut environmental protections. The real emergency? Skyrocketing prices caused by his Big Oil, Big Gas, Big Coal agenda. I’m heading to the Senate floor to call out his lies.

"Cancer Alley" is the area of the U.S. that has already been identified as having the highest risk of cancer from industrial air pollution in the nation, primarily from oil, gas & chemicals. I recently reported from Cancer Alley on the harms of Trump's tax bill.

Cancer risks in parts of Louisiana's industrial area between New Orleans and Baton Rouge already known as "Cancer Alley" are up to 11 times higher than estimates by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to a study by scientists at Johns Hopkins University.

All of the census tracts in the study had "unacceptable" levels of cancer risk, Johns Hopkins researchers found.
