Luggage space has been mentioned a few times with these. Basically, there isn't any. The small frunk is for the rolled-up roof. I decanted four changes of clothes into a tote bag and brought a rucksack along for this leg - my suitcase is with a storage company in Tokyo...
First fill-up with the S660. 50+ mpg isn't bad with plenty of enthusiastic use.

Visited the Fuji Speedway museum today. Which I have to keep reminding myself isn't the Toyota museum, as I seemed to come away with a lot of photos of Toyotas.

Other than the S660 I've not seen many kei cars of note over the last few days, but quite liked this Suzuki Carry being dwarfed by much larger machinery.

Full day spent with this and all I can say is the world really needs more cars like it. Great fun at sensible speeds, still quick enough to be exciting, park it anywhere, doesn't use much fuel, doesn't take up the entire road, involving controls, makes silly but not obnoxious noises.

Some of the rooms of the trip so far. Mixture of hostels and ryokans.

In the spirit of checking the website, just as well I didn't go to the Fuji motorsports museum tomorrow, as I was intending to, on the one single day all month that it's closed 😆

In non-train news, picked up the final rental car, which I've got for five days or so. Will take much better photos later, but had to take a snap of Fuji peeking through the haze this morning (needed a bit of dehaze/clarity to bring it out, hence the slightly odd look of this pic).

I *assume* some train folks follow me, so here's a snap of the Enoshima Electric Railway, which seems purpose-designed to be instagram-friendly.

Today's steed. Nearly 300,000km on it, which might explain me getting stranded (at an Autobacs, so worse places) when it refused to start and then flooded itself. On the plus side, I now know how to un-flood an RX-8.

Word for the wise, always check the *website* of the place you're going to before visiting. Honda Collection Hall on Google? Open all week. In reality, as stated on the website? Closed several days in December, today included, on holiday hours.

A very vibrant itasha kei truck in Akihabara is today's Kei of the Day.

One of the best of the 90s saloon shapes. Seemingly few good Lexus IS of this gen left in the UK, so think you'd have to import one from Japan (where it got both the inline six and, as the Altezza RS200, a Beams inline four).

Actually took today's kei car snaps yesterday, but stumbling across a classic kei car graveyard was quite a find. Mostly Subaru 360s, but there was a Honda Life in there too, with not much life left in it.

Finding this Jeep Wagoneer in Tokyo made me feel a little better about not having my camera handy when a bloody Toyota 2000GT (or possibly a Rocky Auto 3000GT, as the wheels looked a little big) drove past.

100% success rate for sitting on the wrong side of the Shinkansen to see Fuji, but managed to catch a glimpse before the tracks curved to the right and put it on our right-hand side.

Today I can offer not one but two kei cars. Well, two vans really. Brown lad is I think a Subaru Sambar, white nugget is a Daihatsu Mira Walkthrough van.

One of the limitations of Google's public transport directions, detailed as they are, is that it tries to do the most direct route rather than the smartest. Umpteen trains in over 2hrs in pic 1, or pic 2 and 3, a fast train and 12 mins back-tracking on a commuter line.

Finally got around to taking some nice photos of the rental MX-5. I've not even taken any of my *own* MX-5 like this. (Nor have I driven my own car on any roads as good as the one I found today 🤷‍♂️)

Daihatsu Move Canbus is the Kei of the Day. These things are absolutely everywhere here. Probably one of the best-looking of the more practical, cab-forward kei boxes.

Some surrealism yesterday with the white marble sculptures at the Hill of Hope, at Kousanji Temple on Ikuchi Island.
November 27, 2025 at 11:03 PM
Haven't raided the proper camera for a kei car yet so here's another from yesterday, a Suzuki Carry or similar cosplaying as something old.

As I didn't clarify earlier, the cycling was because I rode (some of) the Shimanami Kaido, an absolutely spectacular island-hopping route across the Seto inland sea. I started on the left (actually the south) and made it to the Omishima Bridge marked on the map.

Didn't snap any kei cars yesterday, but making up for it with this modified Copen.

Two-wheelin' it today.
