I am looking forward to sharing the first round of results from my forthcoming Climate Change Assessment for the Salish Sea report on Wednesday, December 11th 4-5 pm PST. You can register for this hybrid event here: foundation.wwu.edu/event/climat...

Climate Change in the Salish Sea Bioregion | The Foundation for WWU & Alumni | Western Washington University
How has anthropogenic climate change altered temperature and precipitation patterns in the Salish Sea bioregion? What further changes do global climate models project for our region over the 21st cent...

For the #30daymapchallenge Day 30's prompt "Final Map", I am going to reshare an old map on a new platform. Here is the general reference map for the Salish Sea Bioregion from the Salish Sea Atlas wp.wwu.edu/salishseaatl....

Great, thanks! The Shugar paper is what I have been relying on the most in my early exploration of this project.

Awesome, Dan! Eventually I hope to make a more detailed map series showing what we know about both ice sheet extent and sea level at multiple time steps. Do you have a favorite sea level reconstruction dataset?

How could I resist using a custom Bonne projection for #30daymapchallenge Day 26's prompt of "Projections"? So, just for fun, here are 1,000 km interval geodesic buffers around the Salish Sea Bioregion. Does anyone need a Valentine's Day card for a fan of the Salish Sea? 🙂

Yes, tell us more! This is awesome.

The Salish Sea contains all of Puget Sound, as well as the Strait of Georgia and Strait of Juan de Fuca. If you want to learn more about the Salish Sea's geography, check out my overview here arcg.is/1D8rDX0

Winter is coming and the #30daymapchallenge Day 25's prompt is "Heat", so obviously I made a map of the 1991-2020 average winter minimum temperatures across the Salish Sea Bioregion 🙂

Cross-posting late: this was my entry for the #30daymapchallenge Day 12's prompt of "Time and Space". But, it kind of works for Day 24's "Circles" prompt too. 1901-2022 linear trends in average annual temperature at #climate stations with long, continuous records in the #SalishSea Bioregion.

For #30daymapchallenge Day 23's prompt of "Memory", I decided to focus on something the land remembers instead of a human memory. Here is the reconstructed extent of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet ~18,700 years ago (based on Dalton et al. 2020).

Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate GIS Day and Geography Awareness Week in WWU's lovely map collection room! It is wonderful to work at a university with so many map enthusiasts!

For #30daymapchallenge Day 22's prompt of "two colors", I made this minimalist black and white map of the Salish Sea Bioregion.

#30daymapchallenge Day 19's prompt is "Typography". Here are the names of large marine water bodies within the Salish Sea oriented and scaled to represent the shape and location of the water bodies themselves.

Thanks for putting this together, @sarahbell.bsky.social! I was doing this the slow way, but having a pack is very convenient. Fingers crossed that we finally have a new home for sharing mappy stuff with our cartography community!

Happy Geography Awareness Week! 🌎 Here at #WWU, we are celebrating #GeoWeek with a humanitarian #OSM mapathon and reception in our map library.

#Geography

Cross-posting late since I'm new here... #30daymapchallenge Day 1's prompt was "points". Here are the 837 coastal points, capes, etc. with "Point" in their name along the shores of the Salish Sea. Whatever critique you might have, you can't call this map pointless 😄. #SalishSea #Cartography #GIS

The prompt for Day 2 of the 2024 #30daymapchallenge is lines, which made me think of routes and shipping lanes. This map shows marine vessel traffic counts in the Salish Sea recorded in 2023, using US Coast Guard AIS data from the Marine Cadastre website.
