I've been learning GPR the last few days. It's going good to get some pretty heavy use on my thesis site.

As a "young" (time in the field not age) archaeologist, I gave my first guest lecture today on using Small Uncrewed Aircraft System (sUAS) in Archaeology. It was fun. I am still not super confident giving presentations though. I guess at some point I will work through that.

That's a lot of Assassins Creed icons on the desktop.

Finished up a little photogrammetry the last few days. Here is one example.

I finished the first draft of my thesis proposal, I think. Finished making plates for 80 lithics from three sites. Also moved cold adverse plants inside. Made a grocery store run, and did dishes.

Mark is a cool dude. I'll be up in early January working on a project.

It used to be part of the standard curriculum back in the day.

My uncle was also in college during the Vietnam War. He was also deferred. For the uneducated folks to go after anyone who were deferred because of college is ridiculous. It was common, and will likely be the next time the draft is implemented.

Duck duck go works pretty well.

Movie sets. Material objects to portray fictitious worlds in a digital form to the public. The monumental sets made for film remain as tourist sites. What messages continue for the public long after the images disappear from the screen? #archaeology #pseudoarchaeology #heritage #historicpreservation

1. My thesis project, the "Old LSU Site", aka the original LSU campus.
2. The archaeology of institutional life. I guess more specifically, the archaeology of early American higher education.

Blue sky academics and professional archaeologists, let's get to know each other! Quote this and tell me: 1) a project you're working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren't but keep thinking about.

1) the archaeology of moonshine in west KY/TN.
2) vernacular style grave markers in west KY/TN.

1) fiercely debunking pseudoarchaeological claims of a Phoenician presence in Québec
2) is it spelled Acheulean or Acheulian?

The university has approved a field school for the site, the first since 2018 and the only one in the state next summer. Needless to say we will be doing excavations there and I plan on finishing up my thesis the spring of 2026.

Sorry for the long winded intro.

While I specialize in digital arch, my thesis is on the Original LSU campus in Pineville, LA. The site was the home of the Louisiana Seminary of Learning and Military Academy. It opened in 1860 with William Tecumseh Sherman as the president. It closed in Oct 1869 when it burned to the ground.
