Also keep in mind that LGBTQ representation in places like NYC and SF are more VISIBLE because the risks of showing up are lower, but we’re everywhere. Most midwestern queers you’ve seen, you never knew were queer because they don’t want the visibility where they are.
I’m sorry, I don’t have it handy, but another blessed soul in this thread actually tracked down and linked the same article I got this from!
Come now, friend, I’m only suggesting the most light-hearted, purely celebratory violence! I’m pretty jazzed about it, myself.
Yeah no worries, that’s what I thought you meant! It’s a lot of fun stuff to noodle about, and some surprising insights to be gained sometimes. Cheers!
You can know right from wrong and still not grapple with how much bad info you started out with, and that will lead someone to…less good decisions, even if they’re trying to conscientiously do what they see as the right thing.
…a bunch of questionably toxic starting positions inherited from prior generations, and them more rarely facing a “join community or die” decision point that forces them to develop empathy outside their monkey-sphere, kinda puts them at a disadvantage for extending empathy into the world at large.
Oh, I wouldn’t go that far at all - I mean, just under half of them got this one right, which is encouraging. But as a recovered conservative, I can also say that the straight experience doesn’t force anyone to examine their own moral compass the way the queer experience does, which combined with…
Real and at least partially valid; exactly as you said, they can’t easily place him on that complicated landscape. But all I ultimately meant to say was that he’ll improve NYC for them too, and they’ll get to see a MUCH clearer picture of where he stands over the next four years to build trust with.
This is a lot, but thank you. The stereotyping, I can assure you is 100% coincidence; I didn’t mean to imply any, but I also don’t think I could have said that in a way that didn’t accidentally line up because…it all accidentally lines up. And to be extra clear, I do very much see Jewish distrust as
Hey, don’t forget to be proud you got it right, though. You can show ‘em how it’s done!
Youth/queer overlap does seem like a really interesting angle to examine!
Yeah, it’s important to also note that NO slice of the victory cake was unnecessary, and only with everyone did he make it over the line. With cross tabs like this, each one is kind of its own lens on how the race went, and there may or may not be valid cross-comparison between them, but
Hey, that’s my governor, and uh…no his track record is ACTUALLY pretty abysmal, enough that I think he’ll have a hard time making it through the primaries. He’s been cozying up to right wing figures on his podcast, and has even refused to sign slam-dunk progressive laws passed by both houses.
That’s kinda my point. They wanted that from their guy, they got it, and then he got bodied. It’s good educational material, straight off the university press from the School of Hard Knocks.
Yup. And he got bodied, and I hope they’re taking notes, because I’ve got this ramrod right here if they need help grasping what happened.
I’m not sure I follow? It feels to me like there’s a lot of paranoia because of his Palestine stance, and my point is he’ll try to do a good job for concerned Jewish voters regardless. But I’m not a New Yorker, just a guy that’s really excited. Am I holding something here the wrong way round?
Yeah I was trying to say, initially, that among white voters, he had stronger support among women. You are correct that they were not the strongest gender/ethnic group overall, but it was how the gender lines were drawn for each ethnic group that I found most interesting there.
Well, SOME of the straights are okay. In this case, it looks like just under half.
NBC - I know someone linked the original source elsewhere in the thread, bless them.
It was hidden behind the “show more” link, and it was NOT pretty.
Yeah, it wasn’t pretty. But hey, they’ll get free busses and child care, and maybe not be quite so distrustful next time.
Alternative explanation: the degradation kinkster bloc has been spotted.
If you see the cross tab where gender and race are both split out, among white voters, women outperformed men. Because men went stronger in every other ethnic group, it balances out when you reduce it down to JUST gender. Young voters in general skewed hard for him across the board, too.
Yeah that dropped my jaw pretty good, too, but it does work out. And this is not to say that any part of the coalition was unnecessary, but our layer of the victory cake is EXACTLY the size of the margin of victory. Makes the notes on that one REALLY easy to take.
Yeah no that’s pretty fair
