That’s what these social media bans are all about: parents who are livid that their child went online and found a loving and supportive community outside of their abusive home environment
I’m so sick and tired of this asshole. She absolutely hated that Brianna had a loving community and wasn’t just stuck with her.

totally grieving not grifting mom: we must ban social media for minors despite my child being murdered by ppl close in real life in a hate crime, because if only the trannies hadn't managed to turn my perfect child into one over the internet and thus painting a target

Politicians have been dying to shut up anonymous critics on the internet since the 90s. This is exactly what they need to be able to do it

Fox News is using the moral panic about kids and social media to push the Heritage Foundation’s tech policy agenda (removing anonymity from the internet and repealing section 230, both of which would harm minors and adults)

Yeah. All of the complaining seems really strange. I watched your video last week and you made it clear what you were doing and I was absolutely fine with it. Beyond fine, I was happy with it. This all just seems like a strange attack on you for no reason.

It would be at least *moderately* less maddening if Joseph Gordon Levitt was at least on the take from The Heritage Foundation (and he still might be?). But all we’re seeing here is a classic case of terminal clout demon fiending for a political photo op.

Anyway, @taylorlorenz.bsky.social delivers the tea here about as comprehensively as anyone will.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt made a 12-minute response video to people mad at him supporting mass surveillance and censorship, and somehow got even MORE wrong about Section 230 than his original congressional testimony.

We’re in the early stages of this age verification digital IDs bullshit but this like AI is going to get much much worse before we realize the damage we’ve done to our country and our safety.

A lot of the folks pushing these social media bans and age verification laws are craven and depraved enough to call this a win. It was never about protecting kids. It was satisfying their moral panic dopamine high. And they have always been foolish or willing enough to work with fascists.

Another mass AI surveillance law being pushed under the guise of "protecting kids." The fact that Dems continue to push this moral panic garbage to enact mass surveillance & censorship is abhorrent. We need to kill these laws that harm kids and destroy privacy! spectator.com/article/ther...
Everywhere I go, parents tell me their concerns about the impact social media is having on their kids.

I’m proposing the Children’s Social Media Safety Act — a commonsense measure to reduce the harmful effects on kids, improve their safety and privacy online, and prevent scams.
