Time to give the EP canteen the US libraries treatment?

Food concerns everyone, and so do the rules that protect it. If the EU rolls back food and pesticide laws, we all lose: our health, nature, clean water.

We built these protections together over time. Now let’s defend them.

The emblem of the farmland biodiversity crisis.

On my grandpa's farm they were shooting hundreds, year in year out. For generations. Then in the 60's they wiped them out in 5 years when the farm was modernised. Then it went extinct nationally (IT).

Bird of the year 2026 in Germany!!! By a wide margin, the grey partridge won the @nabu.de vote! I hope the bird will benefit from the increased attention — its population is still in steep decline.

Tens of millions of essentially factory farmed poultry are dumped into the countryside each year. They boost the population of mesopredators like foxes, reducing ground nesting bird populations. They are an obvious avian flue hazard. They eat declining reptiles. Turn out they're also a health hazard

#Biofuels are still made from food and/or on prime farmland (the marginal land BS), they are worse than what they replace (the magic carbon BS), they are massively imported (the rural development BS), it's still first gen (the 2nd & 3rd gen BS).

I'm old enough to remember warning about all of this as far back as 2005, alongside @transportenvironment.org & @eeb.org For 2 decades we've been told not not to negative and believe in fairy tales. Guess what, all of our warnings have come true...

Dedicating just 3% of the land currently used for biofuels to solar power would produce the same amount of energy - and enough to power one third of the global car fleet, if it were electric.

Those that argue against in field solar are barking up the wrong tree (good planning & design still needed)

NEW: Biofuels globally emit more than the fossil fuels they replace, our latest study shows.

The first-of-a-kind study looks at global biofuels production today and the potential impacts of government biofuel targets.

This neatly explains yesterday's EP veggie burger ban vote.

It's a demented measure as consumer protection. But it is a key defence for the world's second most destructive industry.

Since 1970, global wildlife populations have plunged by an average of 73%, and more than a quarter of our planet’s species now face extinction.

Nature needs advocates. Political will is needed. Action is essential. So is recognition that this work is not optional—it is foundational.

Ban the chocolate eggs. Gummy bears might be taken for bush meat. Kidney beans are a clear threat to anyone looking for some Italian rognone. And don't get me started on the French Oiseaux sans tête (headless birds that involve no birds at all).

355 MEPs voted today to ban the use of meat denominations like burger & sausage for plant-based products.

This is a manufactured issue. Consumers are not confused.

If there was ever clearer evidence of political decision-making being heavily influenced by the animal agriculture lobby. This is it.

The EU frogmarched into ridicule by the intensive farm lobby. The European Parliament has voted through the Veggie burgers ban.

As the world burns, we make symbolic gestures to show we want to burn it faster.

At a time when the EC seems to increasingly drift into fact free politics, the leaked #bioeconomy strategy draft is refreshing.
It finally recognises the burning of biomass as essentially a waste of precious resource and argues for resource efficiency, material use and judicious resources use.

With their own bodies contaminated, would our politicians still vote to weaken pollution control rules?

Please start making noise about the #LIFE program. The @ec.europa.eu proposal is insufficient, we need dedicated money in the #MFF (ECF/NRP) to #RestoreNature!

The climate crisis- greed death spiral.

Spanish authorities allow the logging of (living) trees in areas hit by wildfires.

Quick money for the landowner but
-permanent déforestation
-loss of regeneration capacity
-loss of shade for livestock
-More soil erosion

La Junta de Extremadura ha autorizado como medida urgente el aprovechamiento de madera, lo cual implica que se talen todos los árboles.

Don't listen to the dirty lobbies that repeat the "either farming or environment" trope.

Listen to the good farmers that work hard on the ground to make a change.

They deserve support. They need to be empowered.

Weakening nature protection laws and scrapping conservation funding.

Hard not to agree.
The survival of humanity and solving most of the problems it faces are largely down to overcoming the concentrated power of the big polluters and the Big Men who work for them
