Incredible working week full of curriculummy things that make my heart happy. Yellow weather warning is right on time for further exciting curriculum mapping projects accompanied by my zoo including the latest two foster kitties. Genuinely can't wait. ❤️ #curriculumjoy #animalsandeducation

Interesting insight. Every pupil deserves better.

It's interesting that 75% passing Reading tests is a sign of a great success in phonics and reading teaching, but 72% passing Writing is a sign that we need a "first step towards transforming" writing teaching

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockleshells and pretty maids all in a row.

Love the dichotomy that is my life.
Last weekend I was volunteering at RCS with the alpacas; this weekend - St Austell Children's Literature Festival.

Yesterday I had three authors in my van; today I have Supertato; and tomorrow there will be a goat. 😂

Balance and cross-disciplinary work obviously hugely important but on a practical level we need to plan an achievable curriculum that 'fits' and allows for depth of learning so I'm interested to hear others views.

Curriculum experts! We are reshaping our Trust's primary curriculum. Keen to make it balanced, research-informed and thoughtful. Lots of reading and thinking taking place ahead of the review. A really reductionist question but what weighting of time do you think each subject should receive and why?

It’s an oldie but might still be a goodie!

As it’s the final leg to #SATs time I’m resharing my #grammar one pagers.

I used them as part of teaching, homework & revision.

The children liked the simplicity!

Anything to do with the "value" of using cold tasks *shudders*. Let's make the children show us how much they don't know before we teach it. It's nothing or next to nothing. Surprise. A wasted lesson.

I have some of the best 'over my laptop' views going. Good excuse to pause and look up.

Also
Texts that open doors to the wider world and make pupils answer the big philosophical and ethical questions without even realizing they are doing it.
Finally, anything that provides them a chance to explore a part of them they didn't know existed- through text or curriculum or skill set.

Children, just like us, need to feel there's a purpose in what they do that extends beyond them and if you can harness that through the curriculum you're onto a winner. Real world applications are huge.
ariliffe.bsky.social
Opportunities for learning through experience and enrichment are huge too whether that's trips, visitors, getting outdoors or outcomes that feel real and purposeful. Opportunities that bring learning to life and are purposeful and feel BIG beyond the classroom.

Largely through relationships. Through being real and authentic in every interaction with the children. Getting to know them and letting them know you. By sharing the joy you find in learning new things and making every day an adventure.
