Well, you see, the potato starch sludge is first rolled into balls by grimy first graders, then sliced and deep fried.
armadillo13.bsky.social
What do 42% of consumers think potato chips are made of?

I'm imagining there will be some sort of pro wrestling-like theater with ICE agents in on being "attacked" by these guys, making a show of arresting them, and using all that as a reason to escalate things.

Whether the prize has been given to war criminals has nothing to do with how people perceive a nominee. I'm not talking about whether anyone has earned it.
armadillo13.bsky.social
My point was that his renaming the DoD was not something that would convince people he was worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize.

I haven't been arguing about whether Trump is bad.

Where was the requirement that any improvements needed to be done by Democrats?
armadillo13.bsky.social
So gay marriage wasn't an improvement?
armadillo13.bsky.social
There's the EPA which has greatly reduced pollution in the US. That seems like something to save from Trump's idiocy.
Women can get bank accounts without their husbands' permission.
Legalization of gay marriage.
With all its faults, the internet has improved some things.
A lot more than that.
armadillo13.bsky.social
So people shouldn't try to improve it?
armadillo13.bsky.social
Should people try to improve the US?

I'm not talking about how the name of the department affects people, I'm talking about how someone wanting to change the name matters. What would you think of someone who wanted to change the term "Down syndrome" back to its previous description?
armadillo13.bsky.social
Do you think it wouldn't matter if we went back to using the term "mongoloid" instead of "Down syndrome"? After all, it was used for more of our history to describe the condition.
armadillo13.bsky.social
FDR didn't change it to the War Department from the DoD, he just called it what it had been called. If it had been called the Department of War when Trump took office it wouldn't matter.
armadillo13.bsky.social
It's the fact that Trump wants to change it that matters. It's another indication of his mindset.
armadillo13.bsky.social
I couldn't say why it was originally called the War Department, but I suppose subsequent presidents didn't see a pressing need to change it until they wanted to consolidate the departments. Changing it to emphasize the war aspect of the military shows that Trump cares more about making war.
armadillo13.bsky.social
Where does "primary" fall in all of this?
armadillo13.bsky.social
My opinion was solely on the impression given by changing the name of the DoD, not the criteria used to evaluate nominees for the award.
armadillo13.bsky.social
Maybe you should take that up with the Nobel Committee, not me.
armadillo13.bsky.social
I wasn't commenting on Kissinger or Obama.
armadillo13.bsky.social
I'm not arguing against what you're saying about American wars. I think the point people are trying to make is that if Trump wants to present himself as "the peace president," encouraging the US to be at war doesn't help. Changing the name gives that impression whether or not it changes any policy.
armadillo13.bsky.social
If you're talking about my first response here, someone was talking about it not being a good idea for Trump to change the DoD to the DoW if he wants to get a Nobel Peace Prize and I was just making a dumb joke about War and Peace.
Also, the US should try to avoid war even if it hasn't in the past.
armadillo13.bsky.social
I wasn't saying it was a big deal.
