Found these cute little charms at the craft store yesterday and converted them to stitch markers. It was nice making time for a tiny spark of creativity, even if it wasn’t long or involved. I’m looking forward to using these when I cast on the pair to my sock in progress.

Patina and polish today, maybe some stone setting between making sourdough. This weekend was for rest. My work trip was rough on top of all the horrors (gesticulates vaguely). So, I’m all about making joy when I can, I’m baking bread (I have no experience in this) and getting this pendant done

I hoped to get more progress done with this pendant. But yesterday was a doozy hosting 15 teenagers for my kid’s summer party, and today was for recovering. This week will be intense at work, so I won’t finish until next weekend. But that’s all right, it gives me something to look forward to.

My studio is calling to me today. I gave it some tlc, finally cleaned up, vacuumed, got rid of some stuff. I knew I wanted to make something, and somehow landed on this garnet and silver bone—it’s calling to be an amulet. Let’s see how far I get, it’s been a while.

I switched to the fur for a bit. It was uncomfortable. My mantra is—what do I really see. Our brains are quick to assume, eager to fill in the blanks. Painting is forcing that to slow down. Reminding my brain that I don’t want it to work right now, I want my senses to do it.

Oil painting is training me to let go and trust the process. It’s will work out eventually, but the in-between can be very messy, kinda ugly, and full of doubt. Last night, I stepped back and started to see things to adjust and things started to fall into place.

I spent my last day of vacation starting a new painting and listening to Edward Rutherford’s epic novel “China”. Painting the opossum was great fun that I’m trying my hand at a hyrax. They’re such derpy little guys and I’m obsessed with their fangs.

My planar fruit is looking planar. They were dry enough this evening that I was able to scrape off flat planes all over their surfaces. Handling clay is a joy, the act of scraping was like a weighted blanket on my psyche. Hopefully I’ll be able to clean these up and paint them over the weekend.

In this psychotic timeline, learning how to #oilpaint has been a balm. It regulates my nervous system that’s ready to crash any minute. I’m going all in studying basic forms and value until it clicks. A good way is to use planar fruit models (expensive!), so I’m making my own out of #clay.

I’m so glad it still looks like an opossum. Our homework was to fill in the background based on values and it’s harder than it looks. It felt great to slow way down to a whisper—that looks greenish, yellowish, with a little brown, and just a tiny bit of blue, and a teensy bit of white.

I’m so glad it still looks like an opossum. Our homework was to fill in the background based on values and it’s harder than it looks. It felt great to slow way down to a whisper—that looks greenish, yellowish, with a little brown, and just a tiny bit of blue, and a teensy bit of white.

We were assigned our animals today in oil painting class and I got the opossum. It was so good to have my brain stop chattering for a few hours. Work has been so rough (waves hand at uncertain times).
Next week we learn color mixing—terrifying but also exhilarating.
