I am enjoying having friends' offspring being a student in my city - they enjoy being treated to the occasional meal out, and are splendidly good company as well. Which after a long day back on my own organ bench is a Very Good Way to be spending the evening. Pizza, here I come!

Luckily, I had a great book to distract me from those who insist they are entitled to conversation from anyone they choose to talk to.

Stood at busstop so answered the questions politely about the buses. Turned back to what I was doing. Random chatter continued. Then got called "miserable...." as I politely pointed out I didn't want to talk. Followed by "If you're such a miserable git, go off and die." I stopped being polite.

Settled on the bus pre 9.30 a.m. with a front seat view. The Too Early brigade, so far, are philosophical about having to wait for the next bus. This state of being may change the closer to 9.30 a.m. we get.

Spending the day in a darker room until my eyes have recovered from the eye drops. The eye screening chap may also wish to recover in a corner after the stare off as he called me "Sweetie", followed by "I don't answer to "Sweetie", try again. I'm old enough to be your mother, at the very least."

I do admit Leicester and Lancaster look similar on a quick glance, but I do feel New Street barrier staff need to be able to tell the difference on a quick glance as their off-peak train times are different. I then feel scolding me on the basis Leicester was assumed was unnecessary....

Heading North for my usual half term trip. Except it's on a Wednesday, not a Tuesday, and I have to remember I am not changing trains at Preston this time. I have packed my waterproof trousers...

Me + the organist's trolley are off on our travels. With the addition of some currently lesser used hymn books and music, along with Quintus and Decimus to supervise.
Plus cleaning cloths. I have not forgotten the need to clean the organ before I could play it last time I was visiting organist .

Am now officially slumping until tomorrow's trip (to occupy A Former Organ Bench). My own organ bench will be occupied by someone else.

Accidently booked a ticket next to the sound desk rather than end of row as I prefer! Oops... Never mind, I do have an excellent view and it's splendid having absolutely no responsibility for anything or anyone but me.

"It's OK, Moyra, you're here, it'll be fine". said an all too trusting student. I was not convinced+have requested clarification. I did point out I was only responsible for one student at the time, who I was not allowed to leave, not the several who had taken advantage of an unlocked sports hall

Had a splendid day at work doing the job I'm paid to do, just the job I'm paid to do, and it was most refreshing and restorative.
We may even get to half term in one piece which would be pleasing.

Has assembled the collection of possible voluntaries for an away outing as organist in a couple of weeks time. Some Bach Preludes and Fugues, both at the organ and on the piano, do remain very firmly in the muscle memory, it seems.

If you do not want to unleash my outspoken side, dear motorised vehicle users of any variety, do not do the following.
Park across tactile pavementing/dropped kerbs at a pedestrian crossing, then sit in your vehicle, engine running, on your smart device, then say "in a minute" when asked to move.

Oh my... I'd forgotten it was hard work in very different ways with pre-Grade 1 piano students. Both of whom looked horrified at me making them learn a new piece of music without writing the note names in. They're coming back for another lesson, so I may not have been so dreadful after all.

I will neither confirm nor deny the younger church teenager + I were messaging one another during the sermon slot. We do have a 7 hrs time difference to contend with since they've moved away for educational purposes....

Looks like my Friday afternoons are going to be great fun with my blind (their prefered word) GCSE Maths student. I am going to enjoy upping my VI suport skills. They are excited to be working with someone who knows how to support VI students both in sessions + exams.

The person who usually folds the church newsletters is happy with the task I've given her to do instead of the folding for the next 2 weeks. It's more she wants something, anything, to do that's useful - not that she is so committed to that folding task. Easily solved without giving me extra work!

Ah. This will not be a "quiet" carriage. Fortunately I am at the far end and the small ones making the noise the other end...

I'm not sure which of the 2 church teenagers/piano students is bravest. The one flying out on Friday to an international school on another continent for A levels or the one who dealt with the dead rat in the garden without flinching. They think I'm brave dealing with spiders so it's all good, really

I have achieved Hair Cut. "Are the schools back next week then?" asked the hairdresser, as I entered. With the farewell greeting of "See you around New Year, then." I had been thinking of longer hair and growing it, but then I remembered all the reasons I got it cut short in the first place. (1987.)

"Moyra, why were you in church. You're meant to be on holiday!" I am delighted my clear messages about time out are not wasted even if the ones I really aimed it at have caused carnage with my email inbox. (I did say I'd check it today.) Luckily, unconfusing the electrician took 3 minutes.

But - before I go trig point hunting. I need to watch a church being moved.

Yesterday's A-Z walking (change from bull hunting) after finding this led me to go down some research rabbit holes on my return which ended up with me wondering where other trig points might be within the A-Z then had me concluding today's walk needs to go to find the trig point in the parish!

Always entertaining to see how students react to me out in the wild. This very polite one has been seeing me out+about regularly but had been too shy (or been stopped by family) to say "Hello" before. I always leave it to my students to decide - I can do very good pretend I have not seen them!!
