Does shaping EU aviation’s path to net‑zero — and coordinating industry interactions with the Commission, Parliament, Council and ICAO — sound like your next career step?

ASD is looking for a Senior Environment Manager to lead on environmental policy, coordinate common industry positions, and represent the association in high‑level dialogues with policymakers and stakeholders.

The role spans monitoring and analysing EU and international climate, energy and environmental initiatives impacting civil aviation and aeronautics — from EU ETS, STIP and the Green Deal to Sustainable Aviation Fuels and recycling — while supporting the Destination 2050 alliance for carbon‑neutral aviation.

It also means assessing implications for members, including where relevant defence and security, drafting responses to consultations and legislative files, and facilitating consensus across working groups, task forces, meetings and conferences.

Work at the heart of EU policymaking in Brussels with a collaborative, multicultural team, and a competitive package.

The European aviation sector issues an urgent call to accelerate policy action on Sustainable Aviation Fuels. This call to action was handed over today to @apostolostzi.bsky.social Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism. bit.ly/4lWaIov
The European aviation sector issues an urgent call to accelerate policy action on Sustainable Aviation Fuels. The European aviation sector, represented by the Destination 2050 partners — @Airlines for Europe (A4E), @Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), @Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO Europe), and @European Regions Airline Association (ERA), together with fuel suppliers (Fuels Europe, Hydrogen Europe, Project SkyPower) and cargo and express delivery operators (European Cargo Alliance, European Express Association) — today issued an urgent call for accelerated policy support to unlock the full decarbonisation potential of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).

The joint call highlights the pressing challenges of affordable SAF deployment across Europe. The current SAF market remains nascent — HEFA-based fuels are the only commercially available option today and face a substantial cost gap compared to conventional kerosene.

The industry has laid out a 10-point action plan, designed to address early-mover disadvantages and catalyse the scale-up of SAF production and deployment. This call to action was handed over today to Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism during the Implementation Dialogue he convened to specifically address the ramp up of renewable and low‑carbon transport fuel production.

ASD held the inaugural meeting of its Working Group on Ukraine, an initiative to strengthen cooperation between European and Ukrainian defence industries, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed between ASD and Ukraine's Ministry of Strategic Industries in May 2025. bit.ly/3UbbjH7
The newly established working group brings together European defence industry stakeholders to operationalise the Memorandum of Understanding between ASD and Ukraine's Ministry of Strategic Industries; tackle practical challenges to closer industrial cooperation; follow and support Ukraine-related strands of EU defence initiatives; and maintain an open channel for ongoing dialogue with relevant stakeholders.

The working group's inaugural meeting welcomed key Ukrainian representatives, demonstrating the commitment from both sides to translate the May 2025 MoU into concrete action. ASD was honoured to welcome Davyd Aloian (Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries for European Integration), and representatives from the Ministry of Strategic Industries and Ukrainian Defence Industry JSC (formerly Ukroboronprom), with valuable support from the Mission of Ukraine to the European Union.

In a new op-ed published today in @euronews.com, ASD President Micael Johansson (CEO of Saab) and Secretary General Jan Pie argue that Europe is at a crossroads and must turn ambition into collective action. bit.ly/4nnAEet
Competitiveness and innovation: Unlocking our full potential requires fewer barriers, faster R&D cycles, and funding mechanisms that span civil and defence domains. Security: The capability targets approved by NATO earlier this month must translate into long-term procurement contracts that give industry the visibility and planning certainty it needs. Sustainability: To succeed in the green transition, we must align our environmental goals with industrial competitiveness ... Deindustrialisation is not the path to decarbonisation.
