Analyses show that extending healthspan is substantially more economically valuable than merely increasing lifespan. Healthier, longer lives enable older adults to contribute their unique capabilities to society through employment, caregiving, and volunteering.

Healthy longevity arises from a life course of health-producing circumstances. While individuals and medical care can influence some of these, approximately 70%-80% are a result of social, behavioral, and environmental factors requiring population-level interventions led by public health expertise.
