Astronomy, coffee, politics, music, cats, sports, computing. Not always in that order. Canada/Alabama/Arizona. He/him.
Today's colloquium speaker "Astroseismology gives us stellar ages that are good to 10%. For astronomy, that's amazing! Most people can't even guess my age to a factor of 2."

The thing that truly confuses me, as a professional physicist, is that there were enough people to even make this ethical choice. I cannot imagine when in my life I would have even had the opportunity to say “No Jeffrey, I do not want to go to pedophile island.”
European Scientists who said NO to Epstein-funding are the heroines of this hour🦸‍♀️

They show: It was your choice to SAY NO to Epstein's $ as scientist- you just had to have ethics & a spine

Kudos to Physicist IVETTE FUENTES who said NO

Did I convince spouse to watch Heated Rivalry with me? Yes, I did.
Did I convince her to like it? Yes, I did.
Did we just both ugly cry when Scott Hunter came out in episode 5? Yes, we did.
Did I ugly cry so hard I scared the cat and got a giant scratch on my arm? ...
Maybe?

Is Tahoe supposed to actually work? The UI has bugs all over the place, selecting wrong menu items (different from where the mouse is hovering), can't drag and drop correctly... I've never seen an OSX release in the wild like this before.

The PWHL official standings is... weird. Each team is listed with W-OTW-OTL-L, but for some reason OTW is a subset of W while OTL is NOT a subset of L. Either would be a defensible choice, but the combination is bizarre!

Why not explicitly say regulation wins/losses: RW-OTW-OTL-RL?

Best point at SGMA meet and greet at AAS: someone at the table said the phrase "Greek flag meme" and it had universal recognition (much to the relief of the person who brought it up, who was worried they would need to describe it).

My laptop just upgraded to Tahoe.
Please, dear lord, please tell me there is a way to make everything smaller. The gigantic 18-wheeler-making-a-wide-turn corners on the windows is taking up half my screen.

One of my favourite things about having all of my CDs on iBroadcast is that I can literally put all the music I own on random play, and it careens around between genres like mad and almost every track is good.
