I believe Lambie-Nairn decided centre-justification was a neat solution for a design system that would need to cope with presentation in 4:3, 14:9 and 16:9. The balloon idents were filmed widescreen and there was even a widescreen closedown that was never used

Oct. 4th 1997 was also the first day of the main network's new name: "BBC ONE". (A similar update befell BBC2.) Here's the main network clock... 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...

WEBSITE UPDATE: On this day in 1997, the balloon idents launched, on which the BBC showed off its new corporate logo. To celebrate, here's the balloon-era clock from Northern Ireland re-created. Thanks to @nmsni.co.uk for the background image. 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...

Interesting user of the term "displays" instead of pages and weird that they call this "ITN's latest service".

🟥 REWIND | Rare footage of early ORACLE trials in a brief segment in tonight's ITV News at 70.

Not the familiar teletext format we came to know.

From 1973 according to the Top 20. First time I've seen any early Oracle. 2-digit page numbers, monochrome, no graphics and all caps (ignoring the colour graphic of the queen which must have been from a later time).

Pages from Oracle in 1973 just shown on ITV News at 70...

Was that promo broadcast or was it actually shown in cinemas? Or both?

Superb... I especially like the diagram on the door showing there's a card for each hand on the clock and a card where you can manually set the time! Was this just for BBC 1 NI or does the box also have the BBC 2 background in? And what is the drop-shadow card all about?

New watch face. Thanks to @nmsni.co.uk for extracting the background from the GNAT original hardware. 😎

If you add in the widescreen version broadcast on the station's last day on air... 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg... and the MOCK of the Christmas-themed logo here 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg..., I think that makes 32 different versions you can view! Happy 55 years, London Weekend stripy logo!

There was also apparently a version where the lettering didn't appear. I did that one too... 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg....

On this day in 1970, London Weekend began using a new logo on screen, with a flowing blue, white and orange stripe. There was also a version with the orange and blue reversed, which introduced S1E7 of Don't Drink the Water. To celebrate, I re-created it: 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg....

It wasn't a generic look, though. Generic means unbranded. This was a common or shared look. The generic was the version with no region name on it seen overnight before the ITN news.

Deeply saddened to hear that Mr Voiceover Ray Brooks has passed away. For me he'll be remembered as Mr Benn drinking R Whites in 1991 :(

In other news, have you also captured a change from C4 to CH4 in the page header?

COUNTDOWN wasn't a programme for the ITV Network, though?

Got this on double cassette after having the first two volumes on vinyl.
