I post about animals, alive and extinct, and the insane, often obscure things they do. Often about hunting and fighting.

If that interests you, feel free to follow, I guess.

I'm not even sure that it does, at least at the canine teeth (although, hyenas can disembowel live antelope much larger than themselves). Certainly wouldn't hurt if it did, though.

Real life isn’t an RPG where +3 weapons over your foe=victory. To be Captain Obvious, if your foe has even just one lethal weapon and can land an attack, your risk of injury or death is high, whether you’re armed to the nails as well as the teeth or not.

…but most claws are also not built for causing fatal wounds. That is why even in most grappling predators the mouth is still, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the killing tool. Some animals can also soak up damage better.

This fascinates me b/c it’s not REALLY about weapon quantity in and of itself. It’s about applying that weaponry+damage output.

Claws & the likes can certainly cause damage and grappling limbs can make it easier to apply a killing blow…

Also I love that this is teeth and claws vs…just teeth

Spotted hyenas get into one-on-one skirmishes with leopards quite often for a renowned pack-hunting species. It actually makes sense once you realize that most spotted hyena hunts are actually solitary.

That tooth is bigger than I expected

In the Primal-verse, EVERY real life lineage of flying animals has a giant representative.

Okay, this one’s pretty interesting too. I have no idea what the fuck this is.

This is the creature I’m most interested in. Pretty neat demon carnivoran thing. The flat head sort of reminds me of some fossil metatherian predators, but I’m pretty sure this is just a coincidence.

Ain’t his first rodeo with big cats.
ausarchosaur.bsky.social
They reminded me of the mooks from this Spongebob parody game (which I’m pretty sure were taken from an actual one). And like them, someone’s gonna have to fight a lot of them.

Is that their hair coming down their heads?

Sivathere. That…that is all.

I was gonna call this Colossal’s attempt at a Neanderthal, but I realized that would be giving them too much credit.

I’m gonna give my brief thoughts on the creatures seen in the Primal S3 trailer.

Forget King Kong, forget Spinosaurus. In honor of the 120th anniversary of the naming of Tyrannosaurus rex...we’re going to bash our cheap plastic dinosaur toys together and talk about a fight between T. rex and Triceratops.

I know everyone in the online paleontology community and their mother knows this fossil at this point, but I don't think we appreciate how insane it is that there was an actual, real predator that BIT OFF THE HORNS OF ITS PREY. WHILE IT WAS ALIVE. #FossilFriday

Still blows my mind that it had to end with a private settlement.
