Inspired by Harvard’s Marcyliena H. Morgan’s Hip Hop Archive and Research Institute, I asked students on Tuesday to list albums to put in a crate as part of a rap canon. It was pretty fun!
I also talked about Morgan’s efforts to preserve hip hop culture at Harvard. She passed away in September. 🙏🏿

This is terrible. Ursinus College (where my partner works) spent last year planning a reorganization (they’re creating multidisciplinary “hubs”) only for its administration to announce layoffs this semester. I hope this isn’t in the cards for those working at Montclair State

One of my students’ faces lit up when I mentioned Dr. Octagon in hip hop history, so I burned copies of the 1996 and 2018 albums for them because they’re also into physical media. They were happy to receive them! I told them they are some wild albums haha

What Democrats need to do is neither embrace the ideas of the Bernie / AOC / Mamdani faction nor obsessively freeze Bernie / AOC / Mamdani out.
What they have to do is be tougher on crime and illegal immigration and prioritize broad-based prosperity over emissions reductions and identity politics.
