Next Sunday’s #AutChat is on hyperlexia/hypernumeracy. January 18, 1pm Pacific / 4pm Eastern / 21:00 UTC / 9pm BST on BlueSky. autchat.com/hyperlexia-h...

If you know anyone who might be interested and is autistic or similarly neurodivergent, we encourage you to invite them.

The scheduled #AutChat is wrapping up. It's fine to keep chatting, join in late, or use the tag at other times!

Q5: Are there aspects of your co-conditions or your own experience of autism/ similar neurodivergence you wish you could get rid of?

Aspects you would like to keep? #AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:45 PM
Q4: Does being autistic/ND make any aspects of your co-conditions easier than they seem to be for neurotypical people? Harder?

Do they make you experience autism (or similar neurodivergence) differently from similarly autistic/ND people without your co-conditions? #AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:35 PM
Q3: What do you think accompanies being autistic (or similar neurodivergence), vs what’s genuinely part of being autistic, versus completely unrelated to being autistic?

In your experience, do other people think about the division/lack of division the same way? #AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:25 PM
Q2: Do you have difficulty telling some co-condition symptoms apart from autism or similar neurodivergence, or is it relatively clear which is which?

Do other people have difficulty (health providers, family members, etc)?

When does and doesn’t it matter?

#AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:15 PM
Q1: Do you have any co-conditions (co-occurring physical, neurological, or mental health conditions)? Share as much or as little as you’d like. #AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:08 PM
You can also see results of a survey that asks about co-conditions here (about ¾ of the way down; search for “comorbid conditions” to find it).

It gives responses from autistic people and family members mixed together, but has interesting questions. autisticnotweird.com/2018survey/ #AutChat

You can read an accessible summary of a study on autism and co-conditions here: www.thinkingautismguide.com/2018/08/are-... #AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:04 PM
We’re using the term “co-conditions”; these are also referred to as co-occurring conditions and (more by researchers) comorbid conditions. You can use whatever term works for you. #AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:03 PM
Some physical, neurological, and mental health conditions are particularly common in autistic people, such as digestive problems, sleep problems, epilepsy, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. #AutChat
January 11, 2026 at 9:03 PM
Q0: Introduce yourself! Say anything you like about yourself or your interest in #AutChat or in today's topic, co-conditions.

Quick reference for this week's #AutChat questions (please wait till they're posted to answer):
autchat.com/co-conditions/
January 11, 2026 at 9:03 PM
Questions are prefaced Q0, Q1, Q2, etc. When you reply, preface posts with A0, A1, etc & include "#AutChat" so others see them!

Feel free to skip questions for any reason, or respond to them later.

Please capitalize the tag as #AutChat to make it more accessible to screenreaders.

We used to post Wakelet transcripts of our weekly Twitter chats to autchat.com. We also linked to them on the #AutChat tag and on Facebook.

However, at this point in our transition to BlueSky, we don’t know how to integrate Wakelet/similar. For the time being, we do not make transcripts.

#AutChat is a tag for autistic people & "autistic cousins" (people with similar experiences due to hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, ADHD, etc).

We welcome autistic/similar people whether formally diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or questioning/wondering if they are autistic/similar.
