🇩🇪 Even the premium-driven German new car market is seeing a regulatory-driven CO2 dive.

Average monthly fleet emissions across all new passenger cars fell below 100g/km for the first time on record in November... and below Spain!

🇫🇷 France heads towards <80g/km

Great to see one of the auto industry's most prominent designers back.

Thomas Ingenlath returns to Volvo Cars, as Chief Design Officer, effective 1 February 2026.

He didn't make it far from Polestar, though, located down the road in Gothenburg, where he was previously CEO.

Tesla's share of the W-European new BEV passenger car market dips below 10% on a 12-month rolling basis for the first time on record.

Reasons?

Increased competition from incumbents introducing new product in line with CO2 targets

- Chinese OEMs entrance

Citroën Germany has already begun advertising the German purchase subsidies, even though they won't begin until January

Price parity with ICE version would be achieved under some circumstances

That would bring the ëC3 to below €15,000 in some circumstances, or leasing with no Initial payments!

Super journalism in the FT W/E:
"Yet many drivers remain deeply wary of the autonomous car transition. It takes a human about 45 hours to learn to drive a car. Why, I ask, has the tech industry spent more than $100bn trying — and repeatedly failing — to replicate something we can master so easily?

BYD, without question, is producing impressive underlying growth this year, but is seeing a large chunk of that growth coming from unsustainable sources👇

Four-in-ten of its German new car registrations were recorded by their own/franchised dealerships, with just 12% ending up with private consumers

The fact that VW has delayed its usual strategic planning round likely has as much to do with the internal issues the company is facing alongside the European Commission's Automotive Package announcement, pencilled in for next week. Strategic planners might as well be sitting around a pool for now 🌴

In terms of plug-in new car registration volumes across W-Europe this year #VWGroup is leaving the others trailing, on course to see close to one million of their just over 3 million full year 2025 regional passenger car registrations as xEV BEVs/PHEVs.

Chinese OEMs see an increasing share of their models registered across Western Europe as PHEVs, accounting for every fifth new model, while ICE dominates.

Mark Zuckerberg's derogatory comment on "legacy media" while Meta shamelessly gets into bed with the Trump administration is astonishing.

Quality "legacy media" publishers remain critical of international politics and don't necessarily alter course depending on the government like "neo-media"!
