Drinking as little as one can of diet soda a day may increase the risk of nonalcohol fatty liver disease by 60%, while drinking a sugary beverage could raise the risk by 50%, a new unpublished study found. https://cnn.it/42veP3P

Desperately need SNL to bring these two back (and also: could this be the couples costume of the year???)
Grant (Marcello Hernández) and Alyssa (Jane Wickline), the couple you can’t believe is together

I got invited to one this Friday, and I’ll be sure to report back as to whether the fire is worthy of admiration or of scorn

Many times I have been invited to a bonfire party, and many times I have been disappointed to find there was only a campfire. Don’t say you’re lighting a bonfire unless you’re actually lighting a bonfire
This is a bonfire. It is big, hot, and impressive. This is a campfire that would get you sent home at tribal council.

Genuinely shocking levels of institutional rot going on in the US. The push to 'both sides' every question has left fucking National Public Radio to say "hey maybe tylenol really does cause autism, many people are asking questions"

The persecution complex is so real. Once I heard someone say that the Missouri Mormon Extermination period was “as bad as the Holocaust”

Tbh, at this point I think Mormonism has gotten watered down so much that it’s turned almost protestant, and is generally a pretty standard religious culture.
The Joseph Smith era of the Church though? Oh absolutely a cult. I think Joseph Smith is one of the most successful cult leaders in history

The Rapture isn’t real, but it does feel real to a lot of Americans, and I worry that this movement may become violent also, like so many others.

And it’s not just historical, either — things still happen today. Examples include the Peoples Temple (Jonestown, 1978) and Heaven’s Gate (1997), where Christian or syncretic beliefs about the imminent end of the world motivated extreme behavior, including mass suicides.

Big Liver is behind this, I just know it

Christianity has its origins as an apocalyptic movement. Tons of events in the history (the Crusades, the English civil war which briefly placed a pause on the monarchy, or the migration of Mormons to Utah) are a direct result of Christians believing that the end of the world would be any day now

coates is genuinely a generational writer
What are we to make of a man who called for the execution of the American president, and then was executed himself? What are we to make of an NFL that, on one hand, encourages us to "End Racism," and, on the other, urges us to commemorate an unreconstructed white supremacist? And what of the writers, the thinkers, and the pundits who cannot separate the great crime of Kirk's death from the malignancy of his public life? Can they truly be so ignorant to the words of a man they have so rushed to memorialize? I don't know. But the most
telling detail in Klein's column was that, for all his praise, there was not a single word in the piece from Kirk himself.

Insane that this awesome video by @jj-mccullough.bsky.social is only three days old and it’s already out of date. Things have changed so much.
