The MiG-15, developed in 1947, was a Soviet jet with swept wings and a copied Rolls-Royce engine. In the Korean War, it clashed with the F-86 Sabre over “MiG Alley,” matching speed but out-climbing and outgunning its rival.

Here’s a question for you, why do aircraft turn into wind before a power check? It keeps engines cool, prevents FOD from hitting aircraft behind, and lets pilots confirm all systems are working. Better to spot a problem on the ground!

The F-86 Sabre was America’s answer to the Soviet MiG-15. With six .50-caliber guns against the MiG’s heavy cannons, it proved that precision could beat power. Over “MiG Alley,” Sabre pilots claimed a 10 to 1 kill ratio, defining the jet age.

It may look like a regular C-47, but this is the AC-47 Spooky, the first true gunship. Armed with three Miniguns firing up to 6,000 rounds a minute, it rained fire in tight circles over Vietnam. Nicknamed Puff the Magic Dragon, it inspired the AC-119 and AC-130 that followed.
