We celebrated the 100th anniversary of HR Carter's seminal lecture on YF's potential threat to Asia-Pacific area with a perspective to draw attention to the potential reasons why YF epidemics have not occurred in urban centers in the region. @sbvirologia.bsky.social @mauriciolnogueira.bsky.social

We detected yellow fever virus in Haemagogus mosquitoes collected in 2022 in an Amazon rainforest bordering Manaus, Brazil. The viral genome sequence occupied a basal position within the South American I genotype 1E lineage.

One positive thing that happend this otherwise challenging week is that this paper is FINALLY out. Why are Culex tarsalis so good at spreading West Nile virus? We learned a lot by doing this study. A testament to the tenacity and creativity of Dr. Emily Fitzmeyer.

It’s great to see this published! The poster at ASTMH was already an amazing story. Looking forward to reading it in full!

Even at “just” 7.0 logs per mL, a 300mL glass of milk with breakfast would have over a billion infectious particles. Call me crazy, but a breakfast of champions that is NOT.

7 logs per mL is ALOT of virus. Pls do not drink raw milk.
angierasmussen.bsky.social
All milk sampling to date routinely shows 7+ logs of infectious virus per mL in samples from infected cows. Very glad this raw milk was recalled because I cannot emphasize enough what a bad idea it is for people to drink high titer H5N1.

Couldn’t find a virology starter pack so here’s one to get the ball rolling. Repost/reply if you are a virologist so I can find and add you to the list!

Made a starter package for vector-borne disease folks! Please feel free to comment if you'd like to be added or see somebody missing. This is just the start and grabbed as many as I could quickly find! 🦟 go.bsky.app/U8D4FV2

🤣. The phrase “that’s for yellow fever, you monster!” was uttered during the procedure. #Overlyhonestmethods.
