If they had introduced the pregnancy as a source of tension rather than resolution it could have worked. Her leaving makes a lot more sense if she's having second thoughts about settling down with Cassien and using the Force to justify a break up.

The thing about Carney not being a politician is that we don't know how susceptible he is to public pressure. He'll probably be virtually the same as as Trudeau. I/P is a wedge for the federal liberals, so there are some constraints on his position (in both directions)
