I know when I was in high school I only applied to a state school and a few nearby colleges. I knew that unless a “fancy private school” offered me a near full ride scholarship there was no way I could attend. If it wasn’t for state schools like UNL I wouldn’t be where I am now.

💯. Return on investment in University of Nebraska is 10x. As someone from the northeast where going to a fancy private college is the coin of the realm for striving young people, I’m amazed how many of the best HS students stay home. They do so because of the quality of the education here.

There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university.

University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.
