Welp, 2025 decided to give us one last kick in the teeth before moving on out of here. 4:30 in the morning phone call: “I’m broke down”. We managed to get the suburban back to the house and will have it towed to the dealer after the 1st.
It didn’t wait. It will pay off in March.

Ghost of Xmas past: 1977. Omg. Mississippi. No heat. No hot water. Almost got run down by a herd of stampeding cows. Mother and I hid in the pantry and drank a whole bottle of Mogen David concord to stay warm. We left as soon as decent ON Xmas day. Woof.

Ghost of Xmas past: 1977. Omg. Mississippi. No heat. No hot water. Almost got run down by a herd of stampeding cows. Mother and I hid in the pantry and drank a whole bottle of Mogen David concord to stay warm. We left as soon as decent ON Xmas day. Woof.
Ghost of Xmas past: 1975. Xmas in Louisiana. There was lots and lots of food, including a handmade fruitcake soaked in bourbon. I played pinball the whole time we were there. It was actually a better one than most.

Ghosts of Xmas past: I spent all of Xmas 1974 reading Alive by Piers Paul Read. We were at my sister’s house and I was staying out of the way. All I remember about the holiday was that bloody book. It was a good book.

$1,776 will buy you a cheap sectional. You might get a mid-size refrigerator. You could definitely get a pushmower. It would just about cover a set of tires (as long as you don’t want Mickey Thompsons). It’s not enough for a Tempur-Pedic mattress. Just saying.

Yesterday we finally cleaned out my mother’s storage unit. Today will be sorting and getting rid of almost 100 years worth of mail and papers. And, oddly, pillows. Lots of pillows. This is a triggering job that I will be glad to be finished with. And yes, I’m leaving that preposition dangling there.
