Deep-Brain Stimulation Gided by Brain Mapping Resulted in Rapid & Acute Reduction in Severe OCD Symptoms in Trial Patient | Brain & Behavior Research Foundation
A research team led by a recent BBRF grantee has developed and tested in a first patient a novel protocol designed to identify optimal personalized brain stimulation targets for severe, treatment-resistant OCD. Once identified, the team used these targets to guide precise implantation of a deep-brain stimulation (DBS) device whose subsequent activation resulted in rapid and acute reduction of the patient’s OCD symptoms (62% lower 6 months after the procedure).

Incorporating Universal Screening and School Based Mental Health Initiatives in the Classroom | Brain & Behavior Research Foundation
Teachers, school counselors, and other educational professionals are on the front line of interacting with children with mental health issues and can often be among some of the first people to see that a child is struggling. Enhancing the potential for early intervention is important and because educational professionals have relationships with students and their families, they are able to make appropriate referrals for evaluation.
