I was neutral on it back in 1994, but I just heard it too many times, so there's no arguing with it's impact, with how much it was played for so many years, and still is.
I don't have much love for contemporary music, but this is very good. I don't love the production; I'd prefer guitars, drums, some horns, but I love the beat and the vocal, because she sounds as great as ever, and she's singing without the weird pronunciations and vocalizing in much of pop music now
Those are my top two Whitney songs as well. The second album was one of my most played since I bought the cassette on release day, it always went wherever I carried my Walkman, but I think the first album is more cohesive and it's had more play in the last few years.
I've known her name since way back then but I didn't think I'd heard any of her music. I didn't recognize this song at the beginning but the chorus sounds very familiar, so I definitely heard it on the radio. I've added her to my list to explore.
Ballads and fast beats, new wave, hi-NRG, country, pop, rock, the 80s had such an awesome variety of sounds and styles, and I love a little bit of them all.
You Give Good Love hooked me so strongly that I bought the 7" single, but this one totally blew me away. It's tied with just a few others as one of my favorite songs. The intro is legendary, the production is magic, her voice, and the video, absolute perfection. The whole album is fantastic.
