The cherry blossoms are blooming two weeks early in Victoria, BC this year. Walking around UVic campus, I have this eerie feeling that something is wrong - like in a dystopian movie. The cause is likely the warmer winter weather as a result of shifting climate. We need climate action NOW.

It was through my own personal reading of Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer that I realized our role in the natural cycle. In Indigenous communities, nature thrives because human interference supports ecological processes. The role of humans is to engage in mutual reciprocity with nature.

With a Western education, I subconsciously understood nature to be something humans were divorced from.
It taught the perspective that nature is a resource for profit, resulting in climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and the mistreatment of Mother Nature.
