Technically true, it is a national championship. But most historical references give the NIT's winner, Long Island, "the" national championship that year, since the best teams were in the NIT then. As a matter of fact, Sister Jean's team, Loyola Chicago, was the runner-up to Long Island in 1939.

I look at *uck fans and laugh. Phil Knight bought you EVERYTHING including a $30M+ roster. You're in a pay-for-play group of ~15 teams. It's not a national championship of yesteryear, it is a NIL League championship. And the *ucks won't win, b/c the higher they fly, the harder they fall. Always.
