Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Tell me your Thanksgiving Dinner Hot Takes.

- Turkey is tasty!

- Vegetables should be served in casserole form only on this day

- You really don't need rolls

I think I'm excited that my congressman, Eric Swallwell, is now running for CA governor. Seems like a good, smart guy who actually cares! But then, Katie Porter seems like a good, smart gal who actually cares, but maybe has a temper. So I'm far from making up my mind. Which I should be a year out!

Excellent idea
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

I'm enjoying the freakout over on XTwitter about geographical locations being exposed...it's exposing some literary scammers as well. Here's "literary agent" Joyce Momoa, about whom I get occasional inquiries.

I wonder how much longer I want to exist in the online ecosphere that is tech companies encouraging people to engender outrage to make themselves more money and is dominated by the bots and AI that those same companies have created. Like, I can just opt out. Probably be better for me if I did.
thinking about how my parents escaped vietnam, where the CIA destabilized my family's home country by spreading misinformation, and they landed in the united states, which is now getting destabilized bc someone in vietnam is spreading misinformation
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

I continue to believe that the biggest problem with the United States is that our reaction to injustice is to ask "how is this allowed?" instead of "why are we allowing this?"

The first is waiting for a superhero to come and save us. The second is us resolving to join together and save ourselves.
