So in a search for a fundamental truth I'd expect to see convergence of ideas.

If there is no fundamental truth I'd expect to see randomness as people chase the results they like.

I realise I'm in danger of appearing rude. Not my intention.
I'm a former research scientist. Imperfect discipline because it's run by humans.

In my world you test and reject hypotheses based on evidence in a journey towards an answer.

As I see religion, perhaps wrongly, there is an answer given and the counter-evidence is glossed over.
I think you are saying Jainism might be right but human nature is such that we will never find the humility to change horses.

I'm saying religion is a search for a fundamental truth which doesn't exist.

I'm not sure it is possible to tell the difference, sitting as we do, in the middle of it.
So the Dawkins thing is partly about echo chambers and partly about the baffling diversity of religious faiths.

I come back to my point, every faith is striving for truth yet they are on divergent paths. How is that possible if religion is anything more than superstition?
I said it was a decision I was happy with. But I asked, suppose I'd been born in India? I could live my whole life and never meet a Christian. I'd think the Hindu faith was the right one. It seems unfair to exclude someone like that from heaven, when they never had the facts to make the choice.

Picking up on the point of where you were born. I married a Catholic and was given some spiritual guidance by the priest. Lovely man, a shining example of humanity.

Anyway he explained we had free will and if I chose not to accept the Christian faith it was a decision which would shape my eternity.
So if you are within a religion the 'truth' is at the core of your world view. Your religion is the true religion, others are at best misguided at worst downright evil.

I didn't read it like that. I mean, yes that is literally what he wrote, but the point as I see it is that religions generally seem to lay claim to an explanation of the world which is laid out as a truth to be accepted.

Ah well, the innate desire to not only be right but to force others to also be right is a bit of an obstacle to consensus. That I grant you.

I don't particularly like Dawkins, but I think he makes a good general point here.
You'd certainly think that after all these millennia, if there were a single spiritual truth we'd have agreed on what it was by now.
It would take a clever advertisement to make me want mesothelioma.
I'm British and I've been to 4. Can I claim permanent residency?
I guess he dines in a dining room and bathes in a bathroom.

Makes me wonder; this ballroom, what exactly is he planning to do in it?
A bounty where the dollar figure is stated specifically rather than the nebulous promise of 'followers', 'clicks' and 'likes'.

No teenager needs to be put through this nonsense, growing up is hard enough already.
Depends if you're facing north or south.
Oh the Grand old Duke of York
He had twelve million quid
He gave them to someone he'd never met for something he never did.
"US Marshal arrested for obstructing ICE bullet."
More than two there. Just saying.
Trump is a British asset?
You both seem to be wearing pointy hats, is there to be a fancy dress party later?
Or going off prematurely.
Trump would never risk being accused of firing blanks.
Do they not have blank rounds for this purpose?
