Ah the good ol' Rugak's! Still have 2 pairs in use, but as Army has gone all brown boots, now relegated to gardening work (and don't get the old polish anymore). Won't you get issued new pairs together with you 'Sea Blues' (i.e. IDOCS)?

The whole EMO (Electro-Magnetic-Operations) concept is a skill that has to be acquired and correctly implemented. This demands training and discipline on the part of the operators and proper planning and integration on the part of staffs and HQ's. In other words, a professional approach.

Yes... but this points to the "achilles heel" of all electronic systems: the moment you start emitting, you are discoverable and you therefore make yourself a target. This goes for all Electro-Magnetic systems (of which RF is part). It's biggest strength is also its weakness.

@ryanmcbeth.bsky.social : I appreciate your analysis, however have some doubts on view on ROE. Large part is based on adhering to Geneva convention and avoiding unnecessary destruction, suffering or loss of life. These rules are there for a reason, or is that too woke as a statement? Just my 0.02€

Weatherwise we are experiencing a bit of a heat wave here, temperatures have been around 18 to 20C so far, although colder weather is starting to creep in.

Several things did: a desire of my youngest son and wife to do something "different" and my parents having done a similar trip some years agoand being very enthusiastic about the trip ... Basically we're on the postal boat doing harbours along the coast.

So slow motion lijkt het mij niet: de veranderingen gebeuren aan zulk een tempo dat mensen de tijd niet hebben om te reageren of er is weer iets anders. Het lijkt bijna bewust om mensen te overdonderen. Mij verbaast steeds hoeveel mensen bereid zijn hier in mee te gaan...of ben ik naïef?

Ik vind het nog altijd een groot verlies dat we BELGaN kwijt zijn ... net op een moment dat we overgaan naar een vergevorderde elektrificatie (denk EV's, warmtepompen, batterij opslag... ) en we ons dus weer afhankelijk maken van een buitenlandse provider. Strookt niet met nood aan resilience.

how do you do necessary track maintenance? To give you an idea of what is involved with just one of the tasks that is required on a regular basis to keep track straight and level: tamping. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe-k.... Looks good (initially) on paper but some major drawbacks:
- horizontal layout is not ideal (best is to tilt them as on roofs)
- shading when train running over them
- how to integrate with signaling (e.g. ETCS balises)?
- danger of reflection and possible blinding of drivers?
But, worst of all ...
