Delighted to be back in Malawi and with MEIRU to finalise some of our data collection in Karonga, to catch up with the team in Lilongwe, and to present some of our findings at the National Public Health Research Dissemination Conference tomorrow. A hectic two weeks, but looking forward to the lake!

Well, that’s @europeanrespsoc.bsky.social Congress wrapped up, and my 13.5 hr train journey home underway. It’s been a privilege to present data from my work with MEIRU on a community survey lung function in Malawi 🇲🇼 & a pleasure to meet so many friends & colleagues - but definitely time for home!

Read this long, difficult but incredibly balanced and nuanced piece last night. Essential reading for all medics, although perhaps not at the end of a long day on call. Really believe that recognising systems factors does not negate the need for personal ownership of mistakes - but very hard to do
‘All doctors get things wrong. What matters hugely to families in our position is that they have the courage and humility to admit to these mistakes. If they do, it transforms the way you feel about a clinician.’

For the hospital, and for the NHS, it was a closed case, another preventable death: medicine is imperfect, such things...

Excited to be back at @rcpedin.bsky.social in person for the first time in a while, for the Trainees & Members' Committee Strategy day. Making good use of the Members & Fellows' Lounge before the meeting - love that they've got a kids' corner, but my two are a bit big to join me now!

This kind of reporting is frustrating & irresponsible, for @theguardian.com to simply quote wholesale the numbers without critiquing them. Proportion of in-person appts has fallen, but absolute number has massively risen without the same rise in the number of GPs - they are incredibly overstretched

This is medical and scientific health data being blocked. We cannot go down this road. It is dangerous and sets our whole field back. @aphapublichealth.bsky.social
This is a big deal, y'all. Federal health websites are being stripped of content or removed in their entirety. Stick with this thread for a look at what's disappeared so far! 1/x
