Let me clarify: "AI" isn't bad. Over reliance on it to outsource your own brain power and the corporate plagiarism machine is bad.
This shit is why global warming is going to kill us.
30*200 is 60,000$ for my school to pay for the privilege of using nearly 5,000$ of electricity a month.

And my admin wants me to use it *more*
That means assuming the average, my school ALONE uses enough electricity in one month to power almost 33 homes in Virginia.
My school alone has roughly 200 teachers. 6000$ assuming the base price listed on ms website.

Copilot doesn't share the data, but Chatgpt does, and averages 20 queries a day per active user.

20*200*25 work days a month*.33kWh= 33000 kWh if every teacher was the average user at my school.
Two seconds of searching:

One chatgpt query is about 1/3 kWh (per npr, 2024).

In Virginia, 1 kWh is roughly 15 cents.

Therefore, if 100 teachers use a similar AI for 3 questions a day for a month, that's 300$ a month at 2000 kWh.

At 30$ per user, that's 3000$ for us to ask it 3 questions
How unreasonable, for someone with a passion for environmental conservation, might research the impact of a new technology and push back on its over use!
My direct supervisor was flabbergasted to hear AI that, a highly complex digital process that *he* think can do a portion of my job, the thing I'm paid to do, used exponentially more electricity than traditional Internet searches, and that I, an Earth science teacher, avoid using it.
As a science fiction fan, the issue I have right now with the state of AI as we currently see it is that it's way more ghost in the shell than I, robot, but lame.

The AI just a new corporate tool to undercut costs and it's not improving the lives of people tangibly.
Hey, quick question.

Anyone know if the cost of sending the national guard into cities is more or less than the cost of USAID?

Cuz if I were someone worried about government spending, I'd really hate to see it wasted on a public disgrace like occupying your own country
I wish I had the composure for public saving life, but have a short fuse and say dumb shit, so this is about the best I can offer
Tomorrow I'm going to go out at night to shoot fish with a bow and arrow.

I'm so excited to shoot fish with a bow and arrow.
When did we start referring to it as the regime?

It's popping up in my feed as the regime a lot now and boy howdy is that spooky.

Regimes don't tend to end with elections.
I stumbled upon this quote a while back by Nitya Prakash:

"If you can abandon your principles for convenience, or social acceptability, then they are not your principles. They are your costume."

This has been my experience with religious people in my life recently
I think my daughter knows something is about to change. She's been extra cranky today for no reason.

That or she's a baby and they do that sometimes
It's rust time again! 2am void talk!

Monday I have her up at 5. I'm not going to be ok.
My baby is already showing signs of being an independent girl. I just discovered that, while refusing to drink a bottle if I try to feed it to her, she'll gladly chug it if I let her grab it herself.

This is adorable and I love it
This might be the best argument for a VR game ever
I miss seeing news about the Mars rovers when I was a kid and dreaming of building robots and going to space.

Capitalism and billionaires took all the whimsy out of it.
You ever realize someone you really cared about thought of you as "one of the good ones", and instead of changing their mind on your minority group, they just put you on the shelf with the other tokens?

Doesn't feel great.
It's basically 2 am so that means it's time to scream into the void!

I used to be a wannabe writer. I miss it, but the spark of inspiration has left me. Partially I'm old and tired now, partially the state of the world makes me want to escape more instead of create more.

Same thing for 40k paint
You just construct additional pylons.

Also, how can we inject the learning algorithm with 40k battle reports
Today will be my last day on paternity leave. While I was working less productive than I should have been, getting to spend six weeks with my baby has been absolutely wonderful. I'm sad I have to go back.

This is Ladora. She's a rescue dog who was just adopted after sharing her secret talent of being able to clap her ears. 13/10 👏 (TT: kshumanesociety)
