The Berelyse Institute of Cultural Illumination's official website is now LIVE!

We've uploaded an entire section from our archive for your perusal to celebrate launch. Stay tuned - there's so much more where that came from. (-;

Check out the start of our digital exhibition at berelyse.org.

Text that reads: The Berelyse Institute of Cultural Illumination is proud to present The Last Lighthouse Keeper, which examines the end of an age primarily through the eyes of those who lived through it. Select works, including diary entries, letters, and legends, have been faithfully preserved and recreated for visitors to peruse. Though not from primary sources, additional exhibits have been curated by our team of experts to help aid visitors’ understanding of the events that transpired.

Through this special exhibit, we invite all visitors to ask: if you illuminate a single subject, who controls that light, and what might they leave behind in the darkness?

This week's update is a recreation of one of Spica's letters. We don't have many in the earlier portions of the exhibit, but she wrote often, and we are incredibly grateful for all we have later on!

An excerpt is included here, as is the site link.

This week's update is live. We don't have any images of the weapons described here on the site, but we do have a few of them on display in the physical exhibit. They're pretty cool.

Anyways, enjoy.

This week's update is of a very unique record in our archive! The vast majority of our records come from the same few people, so it's always thrilling to showcase something so rare. (-:

As always, an excerpt is attached here, as well the update's link.

I'm proud to announce myself, Ellsyx, and Aimi all have updated headshots. Finally!

I wrote about these, in addition to a few other staff updates, in our latest news post, which you can read here: berelyse.org/news/

Personally? I believe our photos turned out wonderfully. (-:

A bust of Amherst Pounce. He is a young man with dark skin and dark blue eyes. He wears glasses and smiles at the camera. His hair is dark brown, cropped at the sides of his head but curly on top. He wears a brown vest and dark blue bowtie over a white collared shirt. A bust of Ellsyx. She is a young woman with fluffy brown hair with red and gray highlights. Most of it is tied up in a ponytail by a red bow. She has silver eyes and a red symbol tattooed on her cheek. She wears a red jacket with a gray fluffy collar over a black sleeveless tank top. She wears a chunky gray necklace with a fire sigil carved into it. A bust of Aimi. She is a young woman with light skin, yellow eyes, and brown hair with blond highlights that is tied into two twin braids. Each braid ends with a small star clip. She wears a yellow straw hat in the shape of a cresent moon. She has a yellow bandana tied around her collar, and wears green overalls over a yellow and pink long sleeve shirt.

After last week's insanity, things are much calmer around here... finally.

This week's entry is much shorter than the last, but it's a good one.

On behalf of the entire staff, I sincerely hope you enjoy. In my opinion, Nico is truly one of the most fascinating figures whose story I have ever encountered. I wonder if you all will think the same.

Hello, all! This week's update to the site is an exciting one. Not only is this week's entry longer than many that came before, it's the first true introduction of one of the major figures of our exhibition: Nico.

I have more to say, but first: attached here is an excerpt.
An excerpt from the website. It reads:
"Nico… my host. I don’t trust him. He came out of the only intact cottage as I came to a stop, my lungs struggling for air. Another pang from the wounds on my leg reminded me that not only were they still there, they had reopened all over again. I wasn’t going to die of blood loss, but they needed attention, and soon.

The boy looked around the meadow cautiously, one hand on the trigger of the crossbow he carried. Then his eyes fell on me, and he waved like I was an old friend. “Hello, stranger! I don’t see travelers out here often. Are you lost?”"

Here's this week's update. This is an easy one... next week's will not. I can hear the higher-ups arguing already...

Here's to one more week of peace.

Trainee demonstrates an incredible amount of endurance. Her reflexes are sharp. Her footwork is impressive. What she lacks in agility she makes up for in strength.

However, subject lacks actual combat experience. Her sword stance was incorrect. She lost power with every swing. Trainee has the raw strength to overcome an attack, but not the skill to power through the maneuver. It is clear she has little experience with a sword.

Trainee’s affinity for magic was also examined. She has no prior experience with magic, and little natural affinity for tapping into His Eternal Warmth’s mighty Forge.

Trainee’s attitude is concerning. Trainee has little confidence in herself or in her abilities. Suggestions for improvement immediately following the exam were met with pessimism. When reminded that she has received a Spark, and thus has been chosen to serve His Eternal Warmth, trainee began to cry. Attempts to console the trainee were not successful.

This week's update is a truncated portion of a very, very long academic paper.

Check out the Berelyse National Archives if you want to read the entire piece.

A portion (of our portion) is below; check out the full thing on our site. Link in the replies.

We're now officially back to regular updates! While not my favorite portion of the archive (that will come later), I find the records in this portion of the archive endlessly fascinating. Below is an excerpt from this week's update.

Enjoy! (-:

An excerpt from the entry, linked in the following post. The excerpt reads:
"I’m used to burns, not scratches. It was worse when I first started tending the lighthouse. Blossom would see me trying to bring bread up to my mouth with just my palms during breakfast and ask why I was doing that, or she’d see my burnt fingers and ask why they were so red and puffy. I’d snap at her that I got burned. She didn’t understand that fire could hurt. She thought it only warmed and protected us.

The lantern room was sweltering. I can tolerate the heat now, but I couldn’t stand it when I first started. Blossom never understood that; she was used to cool winds and gentle fires. The lighthouse was her greatest refuge. When I told her that it was awful, she told me that I was wrong. She screamed that the lighthouse was a good place. That I was stupid and wrong. And that maybe if I could hear the songs that lived in the walls, I’d stop being so stupid and wrong."

Whew. This one was... contentious... to the very end. I even struggled uploading it to the website.

A young man in a long red jacket with gray wool lining the hood and the sleeves grins mischievously at the viewer. He has brown skin and fluffy brown hair. His eyes are orange-red, and one is closed in a wink. He sits on a sigil that looks like a crossbow. A wave of smoke swirls over his head.

Hello, everyone! A big thank you to Ellsyx for updating our social medias while the website has been quiet. But I'm proud to announce it won't be quiet for much longer. (-:

Below is a small snippet of our most recent news post; you can read the entire post on our site.
A screenshot of the website. It reads:
"We’ve recently acquired additional funding that will allow us to bring on another full time staff member to help assist the team, particularly with tours and other in-person events. While previously, I handled the bulk of the in-person tours, my duties have evolved such that I no longer have the time to spare that I once did.

This is where our Benefactor stepped in. Our Benefactor is not usually involved in hiring, or in day-to-day matters of the Institute, but this opening seemed to particularly spark our Benefactor’s interest. After a bit of back-and-forth, we came to an agreement on our newest candidate. Now, I am proud to introduce our newest staffer, Laura Cee, to you all. "
