🍄✨ From food waste to foodie wonder: Chef-turned-scientist Vayu Hill-Maini is using fungi to turn scraps into snacks. A third of U.S. food goes to waste — and he’s tackling it with Neurospora intermedia, the same fungus Indonesians have long used to make oncom, a protein-packed dish from leftovers.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're spotlighting a Summer Undergraduate Research Diversity (SURD) fellow, Guillermo. “As a Boricua in science, I’m reminded through SURD that heritage and research go hand in hand, and that we carry our culture into every discovery."

Imagine trying to stuff a huge couch into a tiny studio apartment. That's what engineers are up against when making tiny computer chips for your phone. But nearly 20 years ago, a team led by our own Peidong Yang came up with a way to build the tiny on-off switches that make up those chips.
