lore thoughts: what does a war between pegasi and unicorns look like?

Text: How does unicorn/pegasus combat work? Doesn’t magic give unicorns the upper hoof?

Well, it’s not that simple! Unicorns are stuck in the ground, so pegasi have the ability to retreat into the sky out of their range!
The average unicorn’s range of telekinesis is only around 10 ft. Of course, soldiers train to increase this range, but none have been documented as exceeding 30 ft.
But there’s always projectile weapons like bows and arrows, cannons, and catapults. Those have much more range… especially when enchanted…

Direct magical attacks aren’t a big concern for us. Think of unicorns like bees— their magical “sting” will backfire on them if they use it offensively. This is colloquially known as “the curse” or “darkness” and it will shorten a unicorn’s life* if it blackens their heart.
Obviously most unicorns want to avoid that, so they never attack with their magic directly. Using magic to control weapons or enchant instruments of war is fine though.

* Technically, there are no credible reports of a unicorn being completely consumed by the curse. It’s never been observed…
