The legacy of Amos Bairoch, the resources he and others created (Swiss-Prot, UniProt, PROSITE, ENZYME, ExPASy, neXtProt, Cellosaurus), his commitment to open access and high-quality curation, is immense and have guided bioinformatics to this day.

While I admire their optimism, is there really enough reliable information to provide a corpus on the topic? I have tried to use variant effect predictions multiple times for about a decade & it hasn't really provided any coherent results.
