I often get asked why I always have a stuffed animal in my #AdaptedPE bucket, right now a white seal named "Sealy".

Sealy can help with:
1. Emotional support, ex. "Sealy will do it with you"
2. An engaging object to catch/throw
3. A 3rd voice during check-ins or player in tag
In my lessons why I refer to my schedule for a student/class as "my/our journey".

I feel a schedule is something you must adhere to, such as dismissal must take place at 3:00pm

A journey is something you go on together and adjust as needed throughout to reach an outcome.
1 month from today, November 15th, SHAPE Maryland will host their annual convention in Ocean City!

Here is the link with all the info including a full schedule of events from Fri. night and Sun. morning. Scroll down an you'll find the links to register.

Sometimes super simple, this only just required paper and a marker, too!
Saw this student in the cafeteria today and he said

"I ♥️ my remote control"
#AdaptedPE student’s automatic chair wasn’t working & his aide was pushing him around for evasion activities, making him a passive participant.

I made a quick paper remote control so the 👨‍🎓 can tell the aide where to push him.

👨‍🎓 and aide both agreed it was a big improvement

Thank you for sharing this series!
Today's ADAPTOBER submission comes from Matt Barker (@DigitTheAPE) in Virginia.

Using a ball pitch/launch machine he provides access for all students to activities like cricket.

It's ADAPTOBER - sharing the accommodations for the benefit of all!!!

#AdaptedPE 👩‍🎓 working on balancing on different bases and she kept trying to d down dog upside down?!?!

I was perplexed!

Then I saw that this👩‍🎓, who cannot yet read, was picking the card up each time, holding it upside down, and covering the words!

Perspective is Everything!

Working w/ a👩‍🎓 who is consistently fatigued during #AdaptedPE lessons when the aide mentioned that I come after she eats & eating makes her sluggish, but 20 min later she is ready to🏃‍♀️!

Thank you to the aides who often find the "puzzle piece" to help me better support a 👩‍🎓.

Plus! This is a way to have students support each other directly in their skill work.
ADAPTOBER continues w/ Chris Ahrens
@chrisahrens.bsky.social from San Diego with a strategy to aide students in spending more time working on striking & less time on chasing the ball. #AdaptedPE students.

It's ADAPTOBER - sharing the accommodations for the benefit of all!!!
An #AdaptedPE 👨‍🎓 wanted an increased 🤚 dribbling challenge so we worked on dribbling, securing the 🏀 , and then moving his 🦽 forward.

He advanced through levels of challenge until he was traveling through a course trying to improve his performance. From 45 to 31 sec. so proud!
So simple but so helpful, more time working on the skill less time chasing the ball!
ADAPTOBER continues with Bradley Land ( @PELearnPlay )
from Arizona sharing how he makes his own soccer trainer for #Physed and #AdaptedPE students.

ADAPTOBER is here! - sharing the #AdaptedPE community's accommodations for the benefit of all!

Best part is, it's FREE!

I'm already wishing that it was 2 days so I could attend more of these!

Looking forward to presenting twice!

I keep my desk clean but never ending the day with anything on it! Everything has to have a home before I depart.

Starting the day with a clean work space is such an energizer!
This is great!

Visuals are so powerful for students but I've had the issue that at times they can be a distraction too if using pictures of myself, a cartoon character, even random people as the questions start almost immediately about "who is that?"
ADAPTOBER continues with Jim Hambel (@Eileenstrong925)
from NYC 75 sharing how he uses silhouette visuals to support his #AdaptedPE students.

Coach, is this a daily or unit plan for students to work from?
2 more hours for anything???

-Sleep
-Family Time
-Cooking
-The "other" items from work that never get to the front burner...
1st ever lesson w/ an #AdaptedPE 👩‍🎓 & for the debrief 👩‍🎓 asked:
"What's you greatest fear?"
She quickly shared hers was🤡. A hospital🤡 came into her room once & scared her.

A debrief isn't only about reflecting on the objective. It's about making space for student voice too.
