Very sad news to hear Prof Mike Morgan passed away yesterday. A fine clinician, a wise leader and a lovely human. He leaves a wonderful legacy in Leicester and Respiratory Medicine, but he will be greatly missed.

Creative, smart and charming:
@apropostheatre’s #TheTruthAboutTrees inspired our kids’ leaf drawings. Strong impressions from a gentle and beguiling show. Go see it! The Crate, Assembly George Sq, 11.50.

#MIRA is up and running! Prof Louise Wain kicks us off outlining a streamlined entry system for patients who want to participate in research, actively or by allowing linkage of the information we collect clinically in any case. #LeicRespCohort

We only abandoned our #GlenfieldRespTalks briefly during the initial phases of the COVID crisis, but only now really getting back to consistent in-person meetings. So it’s just so lovely to be back in our traditional venue. People homing back to their previous seats like swallows in summer…

And the NHS actually spends less on things we consider “waste”, like admin and managers, than many other nations.

The NHS may indeed be inefficient — but it is not “bloated”. Rather, it is inefficient because it is run too lean.

A proud day as a supervisor! Charlie Hitchman coming through his PhD viva w flying colours. A suitably probing discussion that sounds like it was great fun, & a worthy seal on a ‘tour de force’ (examiners’ assessment) PhD. Co-supe’d by Pietro Roversi, now in Milan, and Andrew Quigley at Harwell.
