Protecting communities by holding corporations accountable for their methane emissions
New Mexico rancher Richard Hodgson’s words cut deep — a simple plea for reason from families living with the daily reality of oil & gas pollution. Hilcorp Energy has blanketed his land with wells, spills, and waste.

Until last month, Forrest Smith was the only person at the National Park Service tracking and plugging leaking oil wells across U.S. national parks.

Now he’s gone — and the methane is still spewing.

The numbers tell the story — and it’s not the one our #PolluterOfTheMonth, TotalEnergies, wants you to hear.

From repeated methane emissions to pollution near homes and schools, the company’s claims for deploying real-time methane detection crumble under real data.

🙌 It's giving... VICTORY. We won, y'all.

📢 Public pressure was critical last week when advocates fought for commissioners to do what's right: stopping a proposal to let oil & gas companies discharge their toxic waste into rivers & onto farms.

TotalEnergies loves to talk about its climate “leadership” — especially at global climate summits.

But while they promise progress on the world stage, communities in TX are still living with the same old leaks, venting, and toxic air.

Occidental Resources is our October #PolluteroftheMonth 😠

Here we see a large plume of uncombusted methane and volatile organic compounds (such as benzene, a carcinogen) being released into the atmosphere at an Oxy subsidiary.

According to the UN’s new IMEO report, 88% of alerts sent to oil and gas companies about major methane pollution events are ignored.

This means nearly nine out of ten super-emitters caught from space go unfixed. The data is clear: voluntary alerts aren't enough.

It's the first court judgment against an oil company for those claims.

Our #PolluterOfTheMonth, by the numbers:

❌ 4+ methane super-emitter plumes since July
❌ Just 1 hour of combined emissions = a year of driving 180 cars
❌ $8.8 million in penalties since 2023
❌ Enough wasted gas to power 5,800 homes

Oxy keeps talking “net zero,” but the math doesn’t lie.
October 21, 2025 at 5:00 PM
PR spin vs. reality.

Oxy claims to be “leading the way to clean energy.”

In reality? Methane pollution so big it’s visible from space, fines piling up, and gas wasted that could have powered thousands of homes.

This isn’t leadership. This is why Oxy is our October #PolluterOfTheMonth.

🚨Our October #PolluterOfTheMonth: Occidental Petroleum (Oxy)

In July alone, satellites caught multiple methane plumes blasting into the sky from Oxy wells in TX & 5 pollution events from their wells in CO since the start of 2025.

When the gas industry calls methane “clean,” it’s not honesty—it’s just better PR.

Most people have heard natural gas is “better,” but here’s the truth:
💨 It’s methane, a climate superpollutant
🔥 80× more powerful than CO₂
🫁 And it leaks toxic chemicals right into our homes
September 25, 2025 at 7:49 PM
🌫️ New research found: every large methane release in CA exceeded health benchmarks for benzene, a cancer-causing pollutant.

That means we are breathing in far more than just methane. #BigGasPolluters call it “natural gas.” The truth? It’s a toxic chemical soup. https://lat.ms/3KirhO4
