Why would it have blocked the Clyde? I built an HMS Hood in my bedroom one Xmas morning and if anything it tended to get lost under wrapping paper.

I eventually found a way to them, via their forum. Much time has passed but at last I have a refund cheque from them. Yes! A cheque in this day and age! Needless to say it won't scan into my banking app so I'm going to have to find an actual branch. (Ok that's probably not Virgin's fault but...)

Are we happy with CCTV and camera doorbells everywhere? I'm not sure I am.

Moving the cost from the fixed charge to the usage charge at least means there is more incentive to reduce usage. I guess not much point if you're already using as little as you can, but it might help some.

The final paragraph says:

Johnson said: “This story is rubbish. The PDCA has been used entirely in accordance with the rules. The Guardian should change its name to Pravda.”

So he's confirming the article's veracity, as of course "Pravda" means "truth"

Yeah but she's a working class female who has succeeded by sheer ability and determination to rise above her station, whereas they deserve the money they inherited and deserve to keep it.

This is nonsensical. Fossil fuel vehicles are on the way out. Electric is the only way forward. Security issues are just a challenge to solve and it's sad that a British company is unable to deliver.

Skyfall is a great film.

As it always does. I hated suits and ties. One major life assurer I worked for in the 1990s had a rule that you had to wear your jacket if you left your desk, later relaxed to if you left the floor. Not great clothes for cycling to work.

One way to emasculate the fascists would be to recapture their symbol as a sign of England's optimism and inclusion.

The Union Flag was probably just too complicated for them, I suppose, though.

50 years is probably my limit. Am I remembering correctly that the fascists in the 1970s paraded the Union Flag, not the St George cross? If so, has the Union Flag been rehabilitated (in England at least - it feels like a political statement to display one in my part of Scotland)? And if so, how?
biggreybox.net
Yes it has but how was that possible? I would say there was already something awkward about displaying the St George's flags before they hijacked it.

Freedom of expression is: "I think immigration is too high and we should not be using hotels as hostels. Discuss."

Freedom of expression is not: "burn the scum alive".

No St George's flags on my British street here in Dundee.

It's odd that flying the saltire comes across as a positive thing (pride in place but in an inclusive way) whereas the St George's cross is lumbered with negative connotations. Maybe imperial history but Scotland was just as culpable there.

Historians are often tempted to tell you something is "worth about X in today's dollars." Here's why I think you should not do that, and what I think you should do instead

Ah! I hadn't realised that was an archive photo.

I would go for culpable negligence or something like that. Or perhaps culpable homicide.

Presumably the image is enough to identify these people so they can be prosecuted for vandalism, the same as if they were damaging a bus shelter or a wall?

If you or I made such a journey we'd probably get sponsorship for our favourite charity and everyone would be saying what an amazing achievement it was. These people are pretty amazing really.

Does anyone know how to talk to a person at Virgin Media UK?

I left them on 28th July but they've tried to bill me twice since. Luckily I guessed they'd be useless and cancelled my direct debit.

Their phone menus lead nowhere useful. The most relevant option leads to them just hanging up!

I think this headline says more about most fringe standups than about Liam Gallagher.
