Recently bit by the birding bug💙. NJ born and bred with a smattering of Maine, NY and FL. Outdoors as therapy and a break from the madness
Peregrine falcon and American Kestral at the meadowlands. NJ Audubon had a raptor walk, which was too late in morning for me, but tons of raptors showed up, including a Rough legged hawk. Jealous! I think I saw him, but deleted the entry on my eBird list, not confident enough. Next time #birding

Ok...I am thinking this is a 1st cycle lesser black backed gull. Adding a pic from the gull guide that is closest to my pic. #birding #birdphotography. Any thoughts?

Ticked 2 lifers this morn in 18 degree weather & got back to my desk by 8:30 am. What a morning! Virginia rail has been my nemesis the last 6 months and a common goldeneye to boot. Sat on the trail for 20 minutes waiting for the rail to come feed and it paid off with 2! #birding #birdphotography

Forbes article on Wisdom — including an interview with Midway’s Jon Plissner, USFWS Supervisory Wildlife Biologist.
A great spotlight both on both Wisdom’s remarkable return and on the science behind protecting her species.

A couple of mute swans carefully crossing the ice to open water. #birding #birdphotohraphy. One got a little too far away and was calling repeatedly for its mate... who came running back. Was kind of cute. Pic of the return attached as well

Met this special Canada goose early morning. As someone with #vitiligo, I feel a special kinship with these #leucitic birds. #birding #birdphotography

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SideViews. So here is a sideways glance at a ared tailed hawk on a cellular tower, a lone Canada goose on the ice, a red breasted nuthatch feeding and a yellow bellied sapsucker. #birding #birdphotography

#BirdOfTheDay theme is #NestBuilders birds with nest materials, the alternative is #SmallBirdsBigPersonality small birds oozing personality. This marsh wren from the summer telling everyone what to do. #birding #birdphotography

At least 5 red breasted nuthatches were feeding on the cones of a white pine (I think). They were loud and active flitting in and out, up and down the tree, honking as they went. It was in a fenced off area for construction so this was the best shot I could get. #birding #birdphotography

Wasn't successful tracking down the common goldeneye seen yesterday, but I did see four #raptors: juvenile bald eagle, Cooper's hawk, red shouldered hawk and a red tailed hawk. #birding #birsphotography

Correcting a post I deleted of a hooded merganser pair. My male merganser was a bufflehead. 🫣 Here is the handsome couple! #birding #birdphotography.

Almost 7 months into my birding life and I think the northern pintail is my favorite duck. Still a lot more to see but how do you not love this bird. #birding #birdphotography
