Looking at a shrub from the middle distance. The leaves are threadlike and silver-grey, and are almost completely concealed by the plentiful golden yellow flowers at the end of every branch. It has the most incredible scent, like honey and sharp herbs.

In a bin a collection of medium-sized pumkins. Most of them are regular looking pie pumpkins, but a few look like they might have crossed with some other squash. The star is a larger pumpkin that is mostly orange but has green and orange "warts" all over it. The farmer saves seed from their own crop every year so there are always some interesting hybrids in the bins.

Sitting on the dick looking across the lake. The Sky is scattered clouds and patches of blue with the sun at about 13:00. Across the middle of the frame, the shoreline, which is densely forested with mostly evergreen conifers, but also alder and larch, which are turning theuir characteristic bright yellow. All this reflected in the lake which has only the lightest riffle of breeze across it at the far end.

On a black BG a single pitcher. The lower part is like a cone, then the top is open with a "hood" folded over it. We're looking at is from the back. The lower part of the leaf of green but near the top it breaks up into scarlet venation and white "windows" between the veins (the windows are apparently attractive to flies).

Standing by the side of the highway looking across a bank with sagebrush, then the lake, then on the other side the other bank, with sagebrush. The lake is at its autumn low and you can see the pans surrounded by short walls of dried salts. Reflected in each pan is a slightly different section of autumn grassland.

Colour photo, dark background, contrasty light. I allowed a globe thistle to bloom and dry out in a jar, and then half the dried flowers fell off the inflorescence. So this is almost like a cross section through the flowerhead. In the middle is the stem where you see the place the flowers attached, and radiating from it, the remaining flowers, spiky brown at the base extending to deep blue petals and little tufts of pale yellow pollen. Another intact flowerhead is below it.

Black and white photo, contrasty, gives the impression of being grainy but isn't. Background is a much crumpled and uncrumpled piece of Korean mulberry writing paper.

On the paper two lines of Papaver somniferum (breadseed poppy) seed pods, the cultivar Hungarian Blue, that remains mostly closed after ripening - this trait deliberately bred in so the seeds will not spill. Nevertheless there are a couple of stray seeds on the paper. The lines of pods are interlaced like a zipper and converge gently out of frame to the right.
