Here in NSW we only have about 70 Hooded Plovers remaining.
Many of our beaches have been badly eroded this year and our hoodie breeding season has started slowly. (photo from my archives :) #shorebirds #birds #WildOz

Thanks for joining us for #PloverAppreciationDay! Please continue to be the voice for these vulnerable birds, not just today but every day. Hoodies are now breeding, so give them space, follow the signs and keep your dog on the leash when you visit hoodie beaches!

Years 4/5 students from Margaret River have submitted Hooded Plover sculptures made from plaster, wood and acrylic paint. Each little Hoodie has their own leg flag with the students’ initials! And Year 4s from Currambine Primary School took inspiration from Australian Artist Pete Cromer! #PAD2025

Did you know that there is a Hoodie Play Pod at Point Turton on the Yorke Peninsula with tiles made by volunteers and local school students? We partnered up with Karen Carr from Squashed Cocky who helped create this outdoor boardgame for everyone to enjoy! #PAD2025 #PloverAppreciationDay

Check out Coral-Mae's (age 9) felt plover, inspired by the Pacific Golden Plover. This submission comes all the way from The Crags, South Africa! Golden Plover chicks are born in the arctic tundra amongst the thawing ice and thriving plant life looking like moss puffs. #PAD2025

Art murals and sculptures play such a powerful role in communicating local conservation issues – especially when placed in coastal towns with high numbers of visitors! Unlike the secretive and well-camouflaged Hoodie nests and chicks, you really can't miss these striking artworks. #PAD2025

Today is the big day - Happy #PloverAppreciationDay ! We're excited to share submissions to our student art competition and some of the art from our talented coastal communities. Stay tuned for our announcement of winners at 5pm AEST later this evening! #PAD2025

We’re not sure, the fungus trials were a CSIRO initiative, but we don’t have any updates. Will try following up with them!

What better way to celebrate National #ThreatenedSpeciesDay than with the first #HoodedPlover chicks of the season in south west WA? The tiny fluff balls were seen foraging along the beach with their parents. Remember to give birds space!

Where in the world are your Chicago Piping Plovers?
El was the last to be observed in Chicago and that was on August 17. Now, we await reports of sightings from wintering grounds although no sightings is not cause for alarm as Imani, Sea Rocket, and Pippin have proven. 1/3
