Australia has a sizable share of the World’s Deadliest Snakes. This month, we're talking about a few of them with venom deadly enough to keep you from discovering their true nature: downright cuddly little critters.

I hope everyone enjoys the pin as much as I enjoyed making it and learning about pseudoscorpions. I keep looking for them now everywhere I go!
The Bizarre Beasts pseudoscorpion pin variants
Main-- red and orange holding a tan book
Uncommon-- periwinkle and teal holding a blue book
Rare-- all over gold

I immediately imagined them as adventurous, Indiana-Jones type explorers. I also loved that they are ancient creatures and sometimes referred to as 'book scorpions.' I made several sketches exploring these concepts and in the end we landed on the book-reading one for the final pin design.

When I was asked to design a pseudoscorpion pin, I must admit I did not know much about these tiny creatures. After doing some research I fell in love with their ways of moving about by hitching a ride on larger animals. What daredevils!

My mind mostly functions as a giant caldron perpetually simmering a stew of almost anything I encounter in life. I live in Missoula, Montana and when I'm not drawing or designing, I am most likely riding my bicycle in the woods, camping, gardening or spoon carving.

I supplement this work with fun illustration projects and occasional gallery exhibits. My influences are the usual inspirational suspects - films, music, silent era cartoons, Eastern European stop-motion animation, comics, nature, dreams, reading, food, and work of other artists.

Meet our pin artist: Daniel Mrgan!

My name is Daniel Mrgan, I’m 47, and I’ve been attempting art since early childhood. I was lucky enough to translate this interest into a graphic design job which is my present profession.

Our next bizarre beast is the world’s most bizarre hitchhiker and one tiny weirdo. So tiny you might miss it, but there’s probably one of well over 3000 species nearby right now!

If you guessed hornbills, you're right! Hornbills are kind of like the African or Asian version of toucans. And as for their weird animal bestie...you're likely to find them pal-ing around with a mongoose!

Our next Bizarre Beast has quite an intimidating appearance. This large tropical critter may cause fear with its eyelashed eyes, but the weirdest thing about it is probably its interspecies bestie. Can you guess what the next bizarre beast is?
