But Elon made it so shitty and unsafe for certain groups, that everything splintered. A lot of tech Twitter fled to Mastadon, while science and medical Twitter fled to Threads or Bluesky or just left. Instagram picked up some of the slack, but photo-centric is fundamentally different.
The beauty of Twitter was that it was Twitter for everyone. It was tech Twitter and science Twitter and poker Twitter and Lego Twitter and everything else. And a blue checkmark indicated proof that it was a real person with a credential in their bio so you could assess them as a source or not.
There were quite a few volunteers on hand for general information (orange vests), medical emergencies (bright yellow vests), and legal observers from the ACLU protecting our rights (blue vests).
Also a visible police presence, but they were professional & peaceful. Bicycles behind the march.

No, I'm still here, and I'm still Wordling, but I've been working this week at a WPT event in Austin and a couple of 15- and 16-hour work days threw off my routine.

I love the new Death Star, but the TIE Fighter GWP is hardly essential. I actually prefer how it looks without the TIE Fighter, because the docking bay feels more open and spacious, as it should.
