With Schlittler going tonight, I just wanted to revisit his WC start real quick and say that it's pretty cool that he could throw almost all fastballs because they're all actually distinct. Good stuff.
Cam Schlittler's movement chart from his Wild Card start, showing his four-seamer, two-seamer, and cutter all in distinct locations on the movement plot.

Maybe it’s an artifact from his approach when he didn’t have as many pitches coming up? Like he’s learning pitches faster than he can implement them in his pitch mix lol

On Judge's HR against Varland, PitchPro estimated an expected wOBACON of just 0.139 if put in play. That's the second lowest E[wOBACON] for any home run in 2025.

Note that Bleday's homer off Matsui came off the bat at just 94.8 mph and snuck over the wall.

Aaron Judge homering on this pitch is INSANE!

The PLV result likelihoods of this pitch:

Swinging Strike: 29.0%
Foul: 32.7%
In-Play Out: 13.0%

We aren't talking enough about how crazy this homerun was

This is now more me arguing with the “comparison vs themselves” point, when “this player is still objectively very good” is more important imo.

To stick with a Yankees player: Jeter had a 119 wRC+ in the regular season and a 121 in the playoffs. That’s essentially the same (and essentially what Judge’s career numbers will be after tonight) and he’s seen as super clutch
blandalytics.pitcherlist.com
Not hitting for a 178 wRC+ against an objectively better set pitchers than you see in the regular season isn’t very damning imo

Fwiw I’m happy to see the Yankees get run out in 3, but the Judge slander is wild

1st point is this entire postseason
2nd and 3rd points are empirically not true, but the narrative has stuck
blandalytics.pitcherlist.com
So Judge:
- can’t hit in the postseason
- only hits when the game is out of reach
- only hits meatballs

Do I have that right?

In Vermont rn, so East Coast start time and moody weather to match my anxiety about the game 😅

Earlier today Andrés Muñoz told the media that when they leave their apartment, he and his wife leave the TV on so that Matilda (their cat) can watch the game.

Looks like I had it backwards. The image I posted is the one they use for pitchers, while the one you shared is hitter-specific
blandalytics.pitcherlist.com
My understanding is GameDay uses a single zone for the hitter, while Savant uses a dynamic zone that can be different pitch-to-pitch (if a hitter changes their stance). I default to the Savant zone

Since it’s not every pitch, probably not significantly. There will be some change for borderline pitches, sure, but those are a smallish sample, still need to be challenged, and that can only happen on takes. If hitter behavior at the edges changes substantially, then there might be a bigger change
